I've had a hallway closet that has smelt musty for a bit but I didn't find any obvious signs of water. I even cut the drywall and everything was fine. Well today I opened the closet and it has mold on a couple of items in the closet and a small amount on the wall. Should I go ahead and call them? How much am I looking at being charged?

Be prepared for scare tactics and a huge price. They will jump all over this, these companies business models teach franchise owners how to maximize profits on mold issues.

Hydrogen Peroxide in a garden sprayer will kill mold, just do it yourself and keep a close eye on it for several weeks.

You need to pull out more drywall and find the source of the moisture. Has to be coming from somewhere. The more you can find out yourself the less you’ll pay.

Buy a non invasive moisture meter. They are probably $30 - $50. You should be able to find it yourself. Check to see if your HVAC supply register in the closet is sweating.

Yeah you need to find the source first and fix. I had them come to our home after we had an area near a windowwell in our basement that had mold after we moved in. Went through insurance. It was pretty expensive for what they did. Basically cut the drywall, sprayed it with some type of product, put down some drying fans, and that was it. Didn't replace drywall etc, had to take care of it myself.

I would 100% not call Servpro unless it’s an insurance job. They are going to take you over the coals

I had a horrible experience with Servpro of Baton Rouge. I had a room flood and told them they were only permitted to perform work that was covered by insurance. When it was all said and done they sent me a bill for around $18,000. Thank god I sent the owner a text early on expressing that I didn’t want them to do any work not covered by insurance. Once I showed him that text he got pretty loud so I asked him to leave my house. Never heard from him again nor did I receive another bill.

Yep. The first guy I contacted was a mold guy, who might be the most worthless person I ever met. He acted like the world was ending, charged me $250 to perform some tests that he never gave me the results for, and then conveniently recommended Servpro (who undoubtedly gives him a cut).

Servpro did nothing but put out a dehumidifier, probably b/c I wasn't going through insurance and they knew funds they couldn't bilk me too much.

Honestly, if any of you have ever seen the King of the Hill episode about the mold remediation expert, this scenario was EXACTLY like it. Almost comical.

Where are you located? I do mold remediation/water mitigation. I could come take a look at it for you for free if you're in N LA.

Number of times Servpro has told a homeowner not to be concerned about some mold: 0
