Please do.

Realistically, how much difference do these fountains make?

Thats what I'm wondering. Full Louisiana sunlight all day keeps my pool damn hot.

I have a little am shade but my pool has been getting up to 93 in the afternoon. Interested to see some replies on the pvc coolers.

Install king this glacier pool chiller in a couple months. LINK

Our family has always wanted dark pool bottoms and I hate how bath warm it can get. Hoping this helps in the summer/hot periods.

Since my previous post when I turned on the chiller the water temp is now 87. So it’s pretty much chilled it 1 degree per hour.

The jets should ideally be pointed to create a rotation to help direct floaties all around and eventually into the skimmers to get sucked down How would 2 “jets” be arranged to create rotation? The Returns should be properly spaced to return water to all areas of the pool (most suggest at least 1 per wall) but it does not matter if the water is returned under the water via “jets” or above the water via a waterfall, a fountain, or the pvc contraption mentioned above. Water leaves via the skimmer (or bottom drain) and is added back via the “returns”. The “jets” are not forcing water into the skimmer.

There’s a reason the eyeball attachment on the “returns” are adjustable directionally. No one is saying they are forcing water into the skimmer. They are designed to aid in the floating matter to move in a pattern to circulate all sides and eventually make its way into the skimmer.

these really dont do anything in South La in the summer. If the wet bulb is 80F, that is the absolute coolest you can possibly get with an infinitely large spray. Typical evaporative industrial cooling systems shoot for 5-10 degrees over wet bulb so 85-90F would be your pool temp. These are engineered systems with tons of surface area for mass transfer of water to air.

Those little pissant sprinklers aren't getting you anywhere near that. Maybe in Arizona or West Texas

ETA - i neglected the dew point dropping at night. leaving the sprinklers on 24/7 may be able to do a little something

My brother doesn't have any shade on the pool, and his pool is ALWAYS cold. He sets them up at lower angle than that photo, so I guess that circulates the water for the skimmers a bit. While we're swimming, we just rotate the sprayers to stay under the water.

I have the same expectations I have of evaporative coolers in the humid south, but for $18 and a lot of stories to the contrary, I'll give one a shot. At worst I have a sprinkler to play in.

Hey i get it. I bought them too before i really thought it out. Practically speaking, you should be removing them when you get out of the pool so you arent losing the circulation that the normal jets provide. I never felt like removing them. Every kid that got in my pool also loved to move them around and play with them. If youre in BR you can have mine

Skimmers are not on the pressure side of the pump. The skimming action is created by suction going into the pump.

For the op: don’t waste your money on a chiller. Just use a fountain or water fall that’s all you need

Using the fountain or water fall at night should get you 5-7 degrees cooler

I have a wall fitting for a pressure side pool cleaner with a booster pump. I hook a fountain to that fitting that floats in the middle of the pool. Turn on booster pump and the water coming down is really cold. Feels like rain drops

If you want a quick slight cool down of the pool water then spray water out of your water hose all over the pool for about 15 minutes. This will cool off the top few inches of pool water that heats up the most during the day.

Use the shower or misting spray setting and it cools everything down. Its no different than how cool water cools down hot pavement.

The past few weeks, instead of doing my pool filler, I put my sprinkler next to the pool and let it spray in while me and my boys are swimming. Cools it off, adds a little extra "fun" to the mix. It helps for sure.

It's evaporative cooling. The overall effect if you run your pump 14 hours a day may be five degrees in a week of run time. I can feel the difference after a day or two. In Louisiana it won't ever make the pool really cool, like low 80s, during the summer, but the flowers do cool the pool a little. Considering that the cost to run is zero after you buy the flower at maybe $30, it's cost effective.

For those of you with the flower fountains or sprayer fountains, no issues with hooking up to your return piping? My return pipe is 1.5", but seems like its differently threaded than regular pvc threads.

This is our first summer with a pool. I'm thinking of getting a shade or something. I wanted a pool not a sauna.

Curious … how hot are you guys’ pools heating up?

Mine usually heats up to 88-91° in peak mid hot summer day. It usually cools back down to 84-86° over night.

We have waterfall and 2 fountains, and the pump runs 8am-8pm. I’m not sure to what degree this is affecting the temperature.

Sure 90° is certainly warm water but it still feels refreshing to me compared to the stifling heat and humidity and especially after doing yard work.
