Homemade Roundup

I use this mix and it works fairly well:

2 cups vinegar
1 TBSP salt
2 TBSP dawn blue

I use it as well but it doesn't kill to the root. It burns off the vegetation but you need to spray it every 10 days or so for control of weeds. And its more expensive than roundup. You need 10% vinegar rather than the 5% sold in grocery stores. Lowes sells 10% in the garden section or I order 20% off amazon and cut it with 1 gallon water to 1 gallon vinegar.

You can try solarizing your soil. Place a clear sheet over the soil and make sure it stays in place for one month. The UV rays will kill weeds and also pathogens in the soil that lay dormant waiting to erupt again. Glyphosate works well but the problem with it is drift which is spray that hits unintended targets. It also will kill honey bees looking to pollinate. I only use it on the most stubborn weeds. Like others have said torching the weeds is effective.

Don’t use this method. Dawn will over spray and take off natural waxes on other plants making them more susceptible to disease and pest

Vinegar mixed with kosher salt works well as does borax. Both options are safer and a lot cheaper. You can use in a sprayer or hose attachment, depending on the size of the area.

Ground clear from Home Depot. Does a better job than roundup super concentrate. (Purple top)

Off hand, I can’t think of any general purpose non-selective herbicide more effective and cheaper than glyphosate

That’s pretty much the bottom line for non selective herbicide. Despite the suggestions that it is unsafe, glyphosate works and I use it all the time.

I’ve never used this product but It is glyphosate mixed with some imazapyr in the formulation. Imazapyr is a herbicide which can control some difficult weeds on a more consistent basis than glyphosate.

I used a vinegar and salt mix along my fences and edges of my flower beds. I have never had to reapply.

pro tip: make sure you rinse your sprayer tank when you use Killzall (or RU). Add a few drops of dish soap as well cause it will gum up the sprayer components quickly (if you are using a Fimco backpack type sprayer).

I’d consider using trichlopyr on V Creeper. Read the label/instruction first before you buy. It’s available just about anywhere. There are other brands other than Bonide. Likely take multiple sprays. Bonide Stump and Vine Killer
