Additional attic venting to assist ridge vents

In an effort to help remove some of the excess heat from our attic, I was told to consider adding a couple of turbine roof vents. We currently have ridge vents but with the extreme temperatures, can’t seem to get the heat out efficiently. Reading up on the two types of systems, I’m getting conflicting info on if it’s ok or not ok.
Anyone added additional venting to help your ridge vents and if so, which type. Appreciate any insight.

The heat wave is temporary but holes in your roof are forever.

If you’re wanting to add turbines, you’ll be better off deleting the rv and adding turbines. Having both ridge vent and turbines doesn’t hurt, but it’s not really helping anything either.

Do your ridge vents really vent? It's not unusual to have no gap or too small an opening in the plywood at the ridge to vent much if any air.

I'm considering this myself.

This company sells fan mounts for ridge vents and fans I believe. https://atmox.com/catalog/attic-fans/attic-exhaust-fan-multi-mount-225-cfm-atmox/

And there is this but it is solar-powered. You might be able to either retrofit an AC motor or power it through a power supply.

And there are probably others out there

The ridge vents were functional for sure before a roof replacement late last year. Not sure if that caused a malfunction or if it’s just that damn hot. I have a call in to the roofing company to ask for an assist regarding the potential install of something new. He also agreed maybe the second style of venting may not be a good idea and reached out to some companies for insight.
I truly appreciate all of the responses and I’ll update when possible.

Soffit vents MUST be clear of any obstruction for ridge vents to work… any venting for that matter to work well.

Make sure ridge vents are actually penetrating the underlayment and decking.

Don’t add a whirly bird too close to a ridge vent or else you’ll create a vacuum effect and will reverse draft your vents.

Bottom line is that we’re in a heat wave and it’s temporary.

I just did it. Turbines to a roof with insufficient ridge vent area. Very glad I did it. You can read my journey here

First off, thank you.
Second, TD never ceases to impress me with the level of intelligence of some posters. Great read.

You can have too much ventilation, especially with power vent fans or even wind turbines. You can create a negative pressure in your home which is another set of issues to deal with. Look up negative pressure - attic ventilators.

I have ridge vents and added 5 turbines (non powered). My attic temperature at 4 pm with full sun & 102 deg F outside Temp is at 122 deg F. I added 6" of fiberglass insulation between the roof rafters and covered that with 5/8" plywood decking. The more 'through roof' open area for venting, the lower the attic temperature will be. Decking over the rafters simplifies attic air handler maintenance/replacement (also attic water heater).

Also, remember if you add additional roof venting you must also add additional "inlet" air venting in the soffit.

Ridge vents are just nailed on to the roof. You can just pry up one section to see if the plywood or "tar paper" is blocking the air flow. With a good flashlight, you might be able to see what size the "GAP" is for the air flow by looking from in the attic.
