Somewhat getting ready for hurricane season.
I'm looking to buy a few to put in/take out when needed.
Small room and bigger (master) room.
What brands are getting thumbs up from this Board?

I used to have a 3 Frigidaire units. Never had an issue. Just clean it regularly is all I did.

I have a GE I use every now and then in my garage. Works pretty well. The app for the WiFi is kind of goofy.

An electrical engineer friend recently recommended Midea.

A small Frigidaire is what I used after Ida. Liked it so much I ended up putting it in my master bedroom (trashy, I know) and it keeps our room ice cold at night. It’s been used every single night since Ida, even during the winter, and it hasn’t slowed down yet.

I have not found very many window units that are very high quality at all. As the others say try to buy something that is American made…but that might be tough to find.

LG dual inverter. They are very quiet and have low starting amps so you can get by with a smaller generator. Maybe the other lg ones are trash but these have held up extremely well. One in my shop runs 24/7, mainly on the dehumidification setting, for almost 3 years with no issues.

Midea inverter hands down.

Costco has a good price on as 12k right now, it will probably freeze out whatever room you put it in.

Surprising to me 2 12k units and a 5K unit kept our house cool. We normally run a 5 ton unit so I was surprised less than half the power was able to keep the house cool for nearly 2 weeks after the last storm.

I just recently put a midea inverter dual hose portable in our master bedroom, it stays hot because it has no shade EVER unlike most of the house and it can freeze out our master and the kids bedroom next door on the eco setting. I ran it on high cool for a few hours to just see what it would do and it was quite amazing. It was expensive for a 12k effective unit but it is so much better than any other option we tried.

What size generator did you use to run all 3 units?

A couple of 5k units...the knob type, not the electronic board crap...are ideal for hurricane use. Less to go wrong and cheaper. Easy on a generator and lighter to carry around.

I have a living room area that flows into dining room and then kitchen. All large area. If I put a small one in living room window (for hurricane purposes) will it still feel cool in just the living room area?

7500/9400 dual fuel Firman. It even started them all 3 at one time once... wife didn't understand the refueling instructions when I wasn't home. She unplugged the main plug from the generator that had everything on it instead of unplugging each ITEM from the main line and plugging them in one by one after restarting the generator.

Bought this one off Amazon. $159 now. Ran it nonstop during Ida and when our a/c went out. It’s a beast and cools very well.

Box fans are great.

I would use several to blow the cold air around the house.
