What do yall reckon it would cost in lumber and building materials for a pressure treated pine 24x36 primitive cabin with 2 windows on each side, a low-pitch roof, about 40 linear ft of interior wall and a couple of cheap doors?

No plumbing, no electrical, no insulation, no attic, no fixtures or amenities or cabinetry...just floor, walls, roof, doors, windows, and some interior walls to separate out 3 interior spaces?

What are you planning to use for siding or roofing material? Metal siding and roofing would probably be your cheapest option

Cheap is good, but don't want it ripped apart by severe thunderstorms peeling shite off every year. I am not too familiar with the metal product, just see alot of it peeled off in storm videos. But I'm not necessarily against it.

Metal fails when it isn't installed properly. Normally what you see is patio covers and not metal buildings peeled off.

Is it true a reflective metal siding/roof that is painted a dark color on the inside will make a cooler building?

Shiny on the outside to reflect light/heat, but dark inside to absorb?

Quick Visio layout.

Window encasement and doorway dims are not exact, just show placement.

OP, you own any land with trees?

This little guest house I am building is a bit bigger then what you want and it has everything including ac/heat. 95% of the lumber, I had sawed up myself from trees off my place. Got around 15K in it. One thing about that, one has to have time on their hands.

do a take off of your lumber and materials.
send it off to a lumberyard.
add 10% to unit costs for waste/etc.
double the materials cost for install

total up

Got a cabin on a couple dozen acres that is exactly this size, minus the porch. I have power and electricity, ran me right around 40k turnkey. You can probably knock off around 6k for those amenities. For reference, I did everything but the electrical and final plumbing myself. I have drywall on the ceiling and bathroom walls, but v joint pine everywhere else. I went vinyl on the exterior, knowing I'd likely upgrade to hardie when its life was over. Tiled the bathroom, shower, and kitchen.

My dad was a GC, I was 10 years into working for him when I did this. He actually helped me do some of the roof framing, as conventionally framing a roof with 2x12s is not 1 man work. Also I wouldn't go under a 4:12 roof pitch.

I'd rearrange the floor plan personally that hallway between bedrooms is a waste of space IMO. Either make the door through a bedroom if its the back door or maybe put the bedrooms in the back if that's the front door. Hallways are huge wastes of space on small floor plans.

I don't know what your plans are here, but I'd consider resale.

Some good advice here. I appreciate it.

For further background, this is basically a hunting cabin in the middle of nowhere on wooded/swampy 33ac lot in deep south GA near the FL line, that doubles as a bug-out location for Covid-20.

Look into shipping container's to build with. If I would build a cabin deep in the woods, that would be my go to. There are tons of plans out there using them for this. Way faster and stronger.

if i ever build another cabin/camp thats what i'd do.
set two containers parallel with about 16' between them, then span across them with trusses and a metal roof.

use one container for bunks and the other for kitchen & head. under the trusses in the open space for drinking and lying

This sounds good too but how much does it cost to buy, transport, and set in place?

that will depend on what, when & where.

Check craigslist in your area. They go anywhere from 2K to as much as 4K. Good thing about them, you can seal them up real good to keep rats and bugs out.

This is a popular topic, and I don’t think there’s ever been a great middle ground solution ive seen that makes sense.

If you just want something cheap with no plans to resale, I’d just consider a used trailer personally.

Or, build it made decent enough to appreciate potentially and sell someday. You can do so pole barn based properties and self contract that can be pretty affordable.

I don’t know much about the shipping container and other ideas but anytime someone brings those up someone else comes around with a pretty big negative.

Just get one of those shipping containers and convert it.

Biggest shortfall on shipping containers in my opine, they're skinny af. If you want drywall and any insulation on them, you're knocking them down from 8 foot wide to 7'8" or under. My shower is 7'8, made it team sized for "checking for ticks"

But people have brought up a great point on resale. I have 0 intentions of ever unloading my land, but I did float the idea of getting a loan with it as collateral a half decade back. Appraiser was being sketch on finding comparables, so I know what they're saying is absolutely something to be considered.
