Yep! I'm gonna take a look at what seeds I have and maybe do that this afternoon if weather permits. Might water in some imidacloprid since I won't be growing them for food. That should offer them a little bit of protection from the borers for a while. And I guess I could stagger the planting.

I still had some Captain Jack and Gold Medal pumpkin seeds from a couple of years ago. I put them in the ground yesterday. They've been stored in a cool, dry place so we'll see if they germinate. I also still have a bunch of Blue Hubbard seeds. I'm going to plant some of those on the outside edges of garden as a trap for the borers. And I'll just let all of that take over the garden.
I'll probably wait a while longer before starting the Fall Thread. Don't know how much I'll be participating but I'll still get it going.
As you said, NOW is the time to plant pumpkins if you want them for Halloween! 6/15 - 7/10 according to the planting guide.
Yesterday afternoon I ripped out just about everything except for the watermelon (which don't seem to be growing too well this year) and the peppers.
ETA: This little fella was hiding in the cucumbers.

Those little bastards are clipping my peas as fast as they come up. Wiped out my rosemary too. Got a damn fine onion crop, been waiting for the rain to stop up here before pulling. Still not seeing many bees and squash production sucks. Cucumbers doing okay, but off as well and I planted the type that doesn’t need pollinators. Not sure how many hail storms we had in the last few weeks, but it took a toll on the plants for sure.

Y'all recon it's too late to repland squash from seed?
Damn borers wrecked my shite this year.

With all the rain and heat this year the weeds are taking over my peas/beans. You literally have to run the cultivator through there every other day.
The damn gear box went our on my walk behind tiller so I haven't been able to keep up this year. Finally found one on FB Market that needed a motor so I'll just drop my motor on the new one.

Got my garden cleaned up today and fertilized plants that are still going. Pulled more than half my tomato plants and all but 2 cucumbers and cantaloupe. I just left the cherries and the plants that still had green tomatoes on them.
Cantaloupes are still putting on fruits. Peppers have bounced back nicely after the deer massacre. Picking jimmy nardellos and will pick shishitos this week probably. The 5 okra plants I planted are starting to take off.

By the end of next weekend, our garden will have okra, black eyed peas, some zinnias, and one pineapple top. I’m nuking this thing and covering with black plastic.

Well, my week away wrecked my garden. I guess my sprinkler system wasnt turned on, so I came back to scorched beans and cucs....so they are getting pulled out. Bird netting mustve had an opening, while I picked over 35 ripe tomatoes, I lost about a dozen to birds. Peppers still going crazy. Also pulling out zuchinni as they just arent producing. Did pick cherry and grpe tomatoes until I was tired and started throwing them in yard. FIlled up four quart bags and gave them to neighbors, still have a couple quarts. They will have that many again in a couple days. I am going to try to saute em with some garlic and onion then use the immersion blender to make some kind of sauce to freeze.

I really like roasted cherry/grape tomatoes.
Mixed in with some feta and smeared on some toasted naan or pita is excellent.
You can make a paste for pizzas too.
I have been making fresh salsa with them too- just choppy chop in the chopper and add roasted peppers, garlic, and onions.
And lastly, thrown in a hot pan for a bit, squashed some, and then mixing in some yard egg for scrambled eggs is delicious.

My okra is going nuts and so far I've put up a dozen quarts of pickled okra, 3 large vacuum seal bags of it in the freezer already cut up to cook down later, given away at least 20 lbs. of it to neighbors and family and have a large pot of it cooking down on the stove to make shrimp and okra for tonight's dinner.
I'm picking between 50-60 pods a day off my plants.
Cucumbers are still going good, my hot peppers (habanero, jalapeno and ghost) are doing great but the bells have slowed way down as it's gotten hotter.
Zucchini suffered their normal demise from SVB's after a nice initial harvest, tomatoes are playing out and the plants will be pulled later this week. My two types of eggplant are still producing, but they too have slowed down.
I got tired of watching my pole beans produce beautiful, lush foliage, tons of flowers and NO beans, so they came down yesterday and I will replant with Japanese Yard Long seeds to get an early fall crop in September/October.

That’s awesome.
How many plants do you have?
Any other south LA gardeners have an idea how long a cucumber or tomato plant should last before naturally kicking the bucket?

If referring to my okra plants, I have 50 or them in my garden in 3 rows that take up about 1/3 of my total garden space.
Historically, and I've had a vegetable garden in my back yards for over 30 years, tomato plants don't live much past mid July and I plant them usually by early to mid March.
As for cucumbers, they tend to last a bit longer, but mine are already showing signs of stress due to heat and the eventual mold/mildew issues associated with our high humidity and this years plentiful rainfall. I've probably picked 75+ cucumbers so far this season and have quite a few more developing on the plants now.

Good to know.
When you pull the tomatoes mid July, what do you put in?
I’m looking for a rotation I can count on.
My okra have been attacked twice by those little slimey worms that live on the underside of the leaves, lay black eggs, and turn them to lace.
We have sevin dusted twice and it seems to work, but there is some downtime attributed to the invasion.

Nothing, since it's so damn hot and humid a lot of new seedlings would struggle to survive.
At most, I have a dozen tomato plants, so I just let that area rest until I start my fall/winter garden in late September.

Pulling my cucumbers and beans today. Cucumbers produced like crazy, beans not so much. Probably not plant them in my small space again
Tomatoes are producing like crazy, probably pulled 100 plus off of four plants. Have frozen a bunch of stewed tomatoes, probably 10 quarts. Okra was late to the party and short, but making enough for a few dishes
I think I have a calcium issue with my cucs so will try and repair it next year.
All in all by far my best gardening year at my new place, so I feel really good about the fall.
