good info, thanks for that. i like to daydream about the beekeeping, but i get nervous if it would cause problems in the neighborhood. my neighborhood has lots that are a little over half an acre so we're not as tightly packed as some of the newer hoods, but i still worry that people will see them and try to exterminate them.

Majority of the lots including mine are .45 and no one knows they are there. In the afternoon they will do some orientation flights and get a little busy but other than that, they are very chill. I've had zero issues.

That all goes out the window though if you have some more defensive bees though.

My neighbor got all pissy about my bees drinking his pool water, so I moved mine out to the country.

defensive bees

i guess i'll have to look into bee training

last year during the drought there was a swarm of bees clinging to my house. they didnt look like normal bees and my first thought was to break out the spray because it didnt occur to me there could be a box nearby. they left after a couple hours. they didnt even touch the garden that was 50' away.

They were looking for a new home. They don't really forage while swarming like that. Their priority is to find the new location asap and start building comb. In general, they are pretty docile while swarming, though it may not seem like it because of sheer numbers.

My dwarf tamarillo is putting on fruit. Wasn't too hopeful that it would fruit year 1.

It took almost 6 weeks for the seeds to germinate. Once it started getting hot it really took off.

I picked a ananas noir tomato yesterday. First one other than cherry tomatoes. Also got a few poblanos, big jims, shishitos, and some okra.

Ignore the mess in the yard. It stormed right before I took these pics.

You pass something down, no matter where or how
Will there be weeds or wildflowers affixed upon your bows
And there's a crooked burning cigarette rolling on your tongue
Will there be weeds or wildflowers when you're done?

anyone know what kind of bee this is? Sorry for shitty pic. They aren’t honeybees they are darker and much faster when they fly around. They are all over these black eyed susans and I’ve never seen them before

I showed my wife since she's always trying to grow carrots and she said "wow those are massive". Idk how to feel about that.

Sort of looks like a leafcutter. But they usually store pollen under their abdomen as opposed to their hind legs. Tough to tell from the pic.

I’ve started making pickles already and have been freezing a bunch of the tomatoes. Definitely going to make some sauce and some salsa!

ETA: Also, blistered shishitos on the menu tonight!

The wife made a batch of canned tomatoes and started a batch of sweet pickles yesterday. Business is really picking up here, too.

We've been making pickles for weeks and ran out of jars. Made a batches of relish too. Now it's time for tomato sauce. Onions are finished curing too. Didn't take pics of the corn, but had a decent harvest despite the wind damage.

Butternut squash looks great, but not quite ready yet.

These sweet potatoes starting growing from last year's roots, so I clipped the vines to see if I could get more started. Did some bare and some with leaves on still, so we'll see what happens. Sweet potatoes will be the only thing I grow through the heat of the summer.

Have a ton of swallowtail larvae on the dill. These baws are just chomping away.

Good to hear. It sounded like it was all but lost.
