Picked some shishito peppers today. This is from 2 plants. Glad I didn’t plant more than that.

I think I might’ve told you or somebody in here that . I planted 4 one time and I was up to my neck in shishitos.

Grilled some Chinese red noodle beans and shishitos last night.

I didn't know that sunflowers could have multiple blooms. There's 7 or 8 on this one. Arikara variety.

Ananas Noir with my fist for scale. Fist weighs 9 pounds.

Rosella cherry tomatoes. Wish I'd planted two of these, they're delicious. Super sweet.

My Romas just starting making fruit and all have end rot. Oh well. The cherry and grapes are doing great. I just do these for sauces anyway.

Yeah it was me. I initially planned on 4 plants. Glad I listened to you.

And no I’m not feeding them plutonium. They just produce a lot of friggen peppers!

What's good to plant right now that can survive the dog days? I've got some free garden space.

Peppers, okra, cowpeas, watermelon, cantaloupe, and pumpkin.

ETA: I’m going to be planting my pumpkin seeds pretty soon. Last year I planted in late June and barely had one ready for Halloween.

Eggplant is another vegetable that likes and can withstand hot weather. My all-time favorite variety is Black Beauty.

In late summer, the plants usually will begin to slow down or stop making eggplants; but, at that point or a little later on as fall approaches, you can give the plants some tripple 13 or a similar fertilizer along with periodic watering when needed, which rejuvenates the plants, causing them to make another heavy yield of eggplants until the first frost of winter.

Please keep me updated on the taste review. I'm living vicariously through you since all of mine died in the late freeze. Curious on how they taste.

Update: I have picked a grand total of five ripe midnight snacks, so I feel qualified to get a half-assed review. First impression is that I like them a lot. They are more acidic than the sungolds, so I feel like they are a good growing partner. Big fan of the tomato based on my limited sample size thus far and will probably grow again. They have a much better flavor than your standard sweet 100/sweet millions and they look a lot cooler.

Give me a second pepper to go with my jalapenos please. Or, even a third. About to have a decent amount of space.

I just started seeds for eggplant and okra. Eggplant will replace the tomatoes, and okra replaces the corn. Hoping to time it right with a succession planting: get the transplants in underneath the cover of the tomatoes and corn. Then once the eggplant and okra are established in a couple weeks, cut out the old stuff.

We're expecting 98-99 here next week. We'll see how my bold strategy will pay off, cotton.

Well damn. I have two of these and some are just starting to get ripe. I'm not impressed with how many tomatoes are on them.

That was my experience with them as well. They were cool to look at, but lacked flavor and the skin was really thick.

I'll ask my wife exactly how she did it but we baked/froze all of our surplus cherry tomatoes last year. I think she put them in a pyrex dish with olive oil and garlic. Baked at 225 or so for a few hours. We add them to pasta sauce.

She said she used this recipe. We didn't leave the stems on them.
