Harvested a bunch of Swiss chard today

Sweet corn is almost chest high, and the tassels are just getting started.

Beans are climbing my cheaply rigged trellis. Just flowers so far.

Sun golds coming in nicely

Also dug up a bunch of carrots.

And damn these things are tasty. Sautéed with only butter and salt, and they're sweet as if I had doused them in brown sugar.

Get ready for the salvia to take over. It's about like mint.

Wait…

I guess I’ll eventually just have to dig it up and relocate it to other beds or give them away.

That's what I've done. It roots easily. I started with two cuttings from my parents a couple of years ago. It's everywhere now. The hummingbirds love it. Once it dies in the winter I mow it and dress the mulch. Comes back pretty strong.

Everything looks good. It is still to cold up here (38 degrees this morning) to plant our stuff. They are forecasting 32 degrees next weekend.

I havent even planted the sweet corn seeds I bought. I was hoping the onions were going to be done by now to have the space.

My stuff is all stunted because of whatever that plane sprayed. Thankfully the plants are flowering and putting on new growth again, but I definitely missed the usual first push of fruits because of it.

Aggravating - but what can you do.

Built my first coop recently...

I should have documented the build as it went along but didn't think about it. Starting off with 5 chickens but this one can hold 8 comfortably.

And had a couple extra Blink cameras I found a use for

That looks awesome. Did you buy/find plans online or did you come up with it yourself?

Paid $5 for some plans that were pretty good and the exact size needed for our small space. I'd say they were 95% perfect, with just a little winging it involved.

If anyone is interested, I could forward you the plans.

I'd like to take a look at them if you wouldn't mind. My wife has decided that she wants to spend a bunch of money to get set up for chickens since she is spending $0.43 more per week on eggs. Thanks

Newbie here.
Seriously thinking about starting the chicken thing. Wife is severely anti but something I’ve always wanted to do.

Would appreciate a look at those plans.

Thanks.

Since I am here…I will introduce.
Been a lurker for well over 10yrs. Had a garden and flower bed at one time, then got caught up running girls in soccer all over the map. Girls grew up and off to college so now I am back into my yard.

Live in Ascension.
Just finished up my garden of tomatoes, bell pepper, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon and snap peas in three 4x8 raised boxes. I did the Mel’s Mix- vermiculite, peat moss, cow manure and mushroom compost. Guess I had too much manure? Have a fertilizer burn going on, edges of leaves curling and turning brown. Hopefully, it will drain off some and not do too much harm.

Really like reading yalls post. Nothing grandiose but if I can figure out how to post picts, I will.

Thank you, my wife has been wanting chickens since she is spending $0.72 more per week on eggs. If she pays for it I'll build it.

I've got chickens. They are a lot of fun.

If I had the room, I'd have ducks. Chicken personalities are funny but ducks are on a whole other level. They just projectile crap everywhere.

Very nice. What kind of chickens are you getting?

How far into the ground did you dig?

I am slightly interested in chickens live in a subdivsion, have a little over an acre and a quarter. Back yard backs up to non subdivision property. Next door neighbor and back 'neighbor' on the 4 acres behind are on board with some community type chickens and possible garden over time.

Here is our restriction for the subdivision. What is your opinion. Seems kinda oddly worded. Includes animals and livestock in the same sentence. Could chickens be determined to be pets based on this language?

quote:

No animal, livestock or poultry of any kind shall be raised, bred or kept on any Lot, except household pets, provided that such household pets are not kept, bred, or maintained for any commercial purpose or are not kept in such numbers or under such conditions that are offensive to the Owners of the other Lots. No pet shall be allowed to run free or unsupervised within the Subdivision. All household pets shall be kept indoors or restrained by an enclosed fence. All pets shall be under leash at all times when walked or exercised in any area of the Subdivision not enclosed by a fence. No pet shall be allowed to make an unreasonable amount of noise or to become a nuisance.

probably not, but what kind of enforcement are we talking about?
