Was able to get in my hive again today. A ton of pollen being brought in, some brighter orange and yellow mixed in with that more pale stuff from last week. Also saw a good amount of fresh nectar too which was kind of surprising.

Spotted my queen and eggs which was nice because I had swapped out my bottom board and didn’t see her last time.

Anybody here grow asparagus? I have some seedlings that I started back in December. I have a bed on the side of the house that I'm going to dedicate to them. Is it worth the effort?

There’s some asparagus at my folks’ place, it was planted (not kidding) over 40 years ago and is still going strong.

Yeah I’ve heard they are easy to grow but require a lot of patience.

I haven't heard of much success starting from seeds. I'd imagine it would be a long process to get it to fruit bearing stage. Typically you plant root balls about 6-8 inches deep, so under everything else you'd plant in the bed. The first year you don't pick any stalks, let them all go to see to build up the root system. Second year they will be popping up everywhere.

I started the seeds just after Christmas. I put them in 4" pots last weekend, they already have roots poking out of the peat pucks I originally planted them in.

Strawberry plants just showed up at our neighborhood Walmart with all the normal herbs you see this time of year.

My parents have had a bed for 20+ years. All I remember was he didn’t pick any the first year. Aside from that he just mulched the bed and probably threw some triple 8 on it every now and then.

I bought some root balls last year or the year before-can't remember. Some are in a pot, and some are in the ground. They have produced a few spears that I allowed to grow. They are really starting to take off. We will see.

Any ideas what’s going on with my tomatoes? Ignoring the yellowing seedling leaves, the lower branches of true leaves are looking rough.

I looked at the bottom of the pots and roots are starting to find their way out of the drain holes.

Just watered yesterday, and have been watering about 2x/week.

So I've got some carrot, arugula, lettuce, and green onions that just germinated in the bed. Temps Friday night will flirt with freezing. I know the established plants would be fine, but do the seedlings need protection?

Doesn’t really look like disease. Probably just the nutrients making their way to the newer growth. Probably wouldn’t hurt to feed a little. As long as the top growth looks good and healthy I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

Thanks. I did feed them a little bit on Monday when I watered them. Will keep an eye out on that top growth.

The ends of the top growth leaves are starting do to the same as the lowers. Any idea how to combat this, or where to start?

My other varieties of tomato seedlings are doing fine, it's just the romas.

Any big temperature swings where you keep them?

What’s your watering schedule like? 2x/ week, usually Mon and Fri

No big temp swings as they're indoors

I can see the roots start to emerge from the top of the soil in them all. Looked between the soil and container and the roots are filling in. Would the need to transplant result in them doing this?
