right on

I’ll never understand the impulse to grab the bottle of roundup for the home garden and landscape. Pull and smother and you allow the soil to work for you, not fight with it

Sorry if already posted, but does anyone have a good source for free flower or veggie seeds?

This is what I do also.

gather them all throw them in a 5 gal bucket with water and let it marinate for a few days and you’ll have free fertilizer

Never thought of this. I’ll have to give it a try. Is there a certain recipe to follow for best results? Or is this an any amount of weeds in water is better than nothing approach? Or am I overthinking it?

Also, got a bunch of seedlings popping up.

Started my seeds yesterday. On deck for this year, 6 each:

Cherokee purple
Tigerella
Pink beefsteak
Sugar rush
Orange Oxheart

Banana
Carmen
Poblano
Jalapenos
Pepperoncini
Buena Mulata (not sure if anyone has seen these but they're neat looking hot peppers.

China Jade cucumbers
Boston picklers

I'll direct sow snap beans, a row of Jericho lettuce, and baby red/Nicola potatoes.

I've got my hands full. But I have a baby due in June so I'm trying to get as much in as possible.

I'll update with pics if I succeed in any capacity.

Congrats! My garden last year was mainly used to grow baby food. My son was born December 2020 and by the time my garden came up he was eating purees. He loved the spinach and carrots, zucchini, sweet and red potatoes, snap beans, and strawberries and blackberries. We froze the carrots and spinach until he was ready and my wife processed. It's the best food he could have gotten as a baby.

That’s a hell of an idea. I’ve got carrots growing at the moment. Gonna look into maybe a few other plants that are more baby friendly.

No recipe, you don't need all those aerating bubblers either. Just throw as much as you would like in a bucket of water with the lid on it for a couple of days then water your garden with it. You can also get a handful of compost and do the same thing. I put compost in a paint strainer bag and drop in a bucket of water. Just a faster way to get your plants the nutrients they need. Gardening is fun when you experiment with things and see differing results.

Does anyone have a good source for tracking current chill hours by location?

Don’t you have a weather station? Is there any way you can track it with that? Is there an app for it? I don’t really know how these things work.

All of my tomato seeds have germinated and are about to sprout their first leaves. Peppers lagging behind per usual.

Same. I have 1 cayenne and 1 jalapeno that haven't sprouted yet. Once they do I'll be at 100%.

I haven't started my eggplant yet. I still need to do that.

I've got a weather station and 2 apps but neither track chill hours.

I was thinking about how it would be neat to develop an app to use the weather station nearest to you to track things like chill hours, first and last frost, weekly rain, etc.

Gotcha. Wasn’t sure if they had that capability. Definitely would be a useful app if someone were to develop one. I know I’d use it.

Same, but my peppers are really lagging. I planted tomato seeds around 1-13 and they are all forming true leaves.

How big is your garden? Mine is alittle under a half an acre.

I'm taking advantage of all this sunlight. Have moved the seedlings outside for the last couple of days. They get moved back in my shop if it freezes or could frost.

Tomato seedlings are looking good so far. Peppers are just getting started.
