I wouldn’t say a pH of 7.05 is “very high”. Over 8 would be “very high” in my opinion. Most vegetables the ideal soil pH is 6.5, but you shouldn’t have any issues at 7.

Today’s random garden thought (with 4in of Ozark snow outside):

When my kids outgrow the nice jungle gym in 2-3 years, I’m planting a shite ton of beans around that baby.

I agree, I have a little more peet I am going to add but I am close enough that I know I will overshoot if I use more aggressive chemicals.

I am glad I had the test done because a lot of the DIY mixes I found call for adding lime when you use peet. It would have been a waste of money and time if I would have added it just winging it.

Yeah, 26 for me. I brought all of my transplants in last night. I forgot to bring in my overwintered shishito pepper. Hopefully it survived last night and I'll bring it in tonight.

As far as my citrus trees go, I'm going to cover them tonight and put a heat lamp on them. Hopefully this is the last frost/freeze for this spring. It should be.

just went and walked my place, tonite is going to be a massacre. Full on flower on my peach and pear trees, citrus and blueberries are covered in flower buds, loquats are in green fruit, all my woody shrubs have resprouted and my figs just busted green. Nothing I can do about it.

Bummer

I'm hoping I bust on my forecasted low. It says 30 but I've already topped the high for today and it is still climbing at a pretty good clip.

I have a newly planted fig that already greened up once due to the mild December we had then got blasted in Jan. The only other bush I see is the blueberry with some buds. I may just cover it.

Welcome to the jungle.

I’ve been bringing my seedlings inside when nighttime temps have been forecast to be below 45. They're currently hanging out in my laundry room.

Got 5 rows covered and buried some others in compost. I might turn the irrigation system on when I wake up. Plants were popping, hope they survive.

Iberia parish. I'm looking at 29 at 6:00 am and 34 by 8:00 am, so only about 2 hrs below freezing. I only have about 10 plants in the ground with the rest 100? in the shop. I covered the 10 with #10 cans. the other 100 are going in the ground tomorrow. IF we can make this, looks like we are in the clear.

I think I fricked some of my seedlings. Must have been too cold when I set them back outside this morning before work. It was about 40. The beefmasters have a couple branches that look like they may not make it.

Oddly, the black krim and Cherokee purples don’t seem phased, and they are at least 2 weeks behind the beefmasters and about half the size.

They should be able to handle that. Hopefully they bounce back.

My cut off is 38. Tomatoes and peppers can handle temps just above freezing. But below 38 I start worrying about frost.

I wouldn't sweat it unless the whole plant looks like shite. I lose branches all of the time while the plants are inside under lights. I will lose lower branches pretty frequently because of lack of light. When it first started happening years ago I thought it was disease, but the second you plant them out in the sun and fertile soil they take off. I find that tomatoes in particular just get tired of being inside. Mine are definitely ready to go out. Planning to plant out next Sunday or possibly one afternoon this week depending on the weather. I've only got my fence box, a couple of pots, and my 4z12' box to plant, so it should be pretty manageable.

I spent today downsizing my raised bed and irrigation system to one box and replacing rotted sideboards to try to get the back yard ready for the house to sell. We hope to list in July or August. 2 2x12"x12', 1 2x12"x8', and 1 2x4"x10', all treated, cost me $200.00 at Lowes today. Crazy.

Looks like everything is fine, hardly any frost at all. It dipped below freezing at about 5 but then spiked back above around 5:45 so not much time to kill off new growth.

Forecast low of 26, only got down to 30. I didn’t see any frost this morning, either. I had my citrus trees covered and everything else inside. Going to bring everything back out when I get home from work.

Gonna watch the forecast for a few more days and probably start planting later this week or next weekend.
