Nice. My vegetable soil is potassium and calcium deficient, and my soluable salt level is low. I'm going to add some gypsum, compost, and greensand next week.

I may try it with a few of my jalapeño and Cayenne plants.

I messed up and did it to all of my Tabasco plants when I intended to leave one untouched.

Not sure if I can hold off much longer on getting a new light. All of my plants, especially the tomato plants, are extremely leggy and I just don't have the room to put everything under that small arse light.

Same here, but only for the need for more space. I have to say that my plants seem to like the lights I have. I just need more room. The Hyper Tough light from Walmart is actually doing pretty well. My plants look green and healthy and the tomatoes are outgrowing everything. Just start the lights about 2" above the starts and keep moving up 2" as the plants grow to touch.

HyperTough 4' LED

I really wan that one Pillage has but it has jumped another $2.

Yeah, I'm about to say F it and get it delivered to the office so the wife doesn't see

The nicer option would be to pitch to her as an early fathers day present or something haha

Between the leggy plants, replacement seeds started for the ones lost, and me trying to propagate my satsuma I will have to do something soon.

Been there done that. Then she bought a horse to train so she does not ask what I buy and I don't ask her. I could go full aquaponic with a greenhouse and everything and would still not touch what she spends. Her English saddle alone would cover my hobbies for a few years. Happy wife, empty pockets.

I upgraded to a couple of cheap LED full spectrum grow lights from Amazon. Made a huge difference. Five to six weeks after starting from seed, most of my tomatoes are 10-12" tall.

I also switched to a different fertilizer (Earth Juice) this year. It appears that brand of fertilizer targets folks who grow pot, and apparently those folks like really, really healthy plants.

I compromised with the wife today. I get the 2ft version of that light and in exchange I make her margaritas this weekend.

I married her for a reason.

Turning my compost pile today and spreading the good stuff on my raised garden bed. Bought tomatoes, lettuce, swiss chard, spinach, onions, kale and vietmanese coriander yesterday and am going to plant all but tomatoes this evening. Have been harvesting asparagus for the last 3 weeks and had one meal w/ them.

When I turn my compost, I just flip a switch. I went to Harbor Freight and got the large cement mixer. I painted it with fiberglass inside and out, then painted it black to draw more heat from the sun. When the weather is warm I can produce a batch of compost in three weeks.

Every time I add kitchen scraps, I flip the switch to turn it and my back loves me for it.

Inbetween compost batches, I mix potting soil in it. I add topsoil, cow manure compost, perlite and some peat moss. Turn it with my magic switch and store in a huge bin for future use.

I hear ya! I have a big 3 bin compost pile that I only turn once a year. But I'm sore as hell today.

Just FYI, I decided to try something different with my seed this year. Instead of planting in soil, I put them on paper towels in a plastic container with a clear lid. Wrote the names of the seeds directly onto the paper towel, then soaked the towel with very warm water and closed the lid. The next day seeds were starting to sprout. Then I planted them in containers and placed under the lights.

This was about nine days ago and my yard long beans are ready to go in the ground. I have had much more success with this method than sowing in soil.

Just thought y'all might want to try it. Only problem is that it's still too cold outside to plant.

Yeah. My tomatoes really need to go in the ground, too.

ETA: I can’t raise the light any higher. I put them back outside yesterday. But Looks like I’m going to have to bring them back in later this week, again.
