4. Do any of y'all have an irrigation company recommendation that you've used in my area?

Try Sprinkler Works out of Ruston, Josh is a good dude and is fair on pricing.

I don't know shite about grass, but wanted Bermuda in my newly built backyard which was just dirt.

I, knowing nothing, just waited for the radar to show a lot of rain for a the next couple of weeks and seeded Bermuda from my local Ace Hardware then raked it lightly into the dirt, along with some new seed fertilizer off the shelf, don't even know the brand.

It was a smashing success. Yard looks awesome. My only complaint is it grows too damn fast

ETA:

My point being, it's not hard to grow Bermuda. It loves to grow and spread

I’m about to get this done in same area. Who did you use?

For my irrigation, I used Thurman Owen. He does a good job at a fair price. For the hydroseed, I used Louisiana Revegetation (Bryan Odom).

The local golf course by my house over-seeded with Yukon and Royal TXD. The groundskeeper told me the Yukon will eventually take over and was more drought tolerant. I think Yukon was developed by Oklahoma State. OSU also developed Tahoma 31 but that’s a hybrid and can’t be grown from seed. Those are the two I’d utilize from seed. I have Tifway 419 which is a hybrid, but those two seeded ones I mentioned look pretty damn good to me and certainly wouldn’t hesitate to put them in my yard. Seeded bermuda has come a long ways because a lot of it looks about the same as a hybrid.

He used Daniela II Bermuda for ours. I’m looking forward to having a lawn!

There is a lot of new kinds of Bermuda I’m not very familiar with that look amazing. A lot of universities are coming out with new varieties of grass and landscape plants that are simply short of amazing. I planted some kind of new dwarf gardenia a few years ago that gets about 3’ tall. Those things have bloomed profusely since about the first of April and haven’t stopped. When I was a kid you had mainly August Beauty which bloomed for about 3 weeks and the show was over. My wife planted these dwarf mounding roses called Peach Drift. They have bloomed nonstop for 3 months. Circling back to Bermuda though the cultivar I keep hearing come up over and over from groundskeepers is if they could switch today it would be Tahoma 31. Supposedly it takes shade well and tested up to 75% more cold tolerant than other Bermuda grass varieties. That’s a big deal on a golf course if you can squeeze another few months of green out of the fairways. There are a lot of good options for people that don’t want to sod or can’t afford to.

Royal TXD is a blend with Yukon, Bengal, and Mirage.

This is what I’ve used to seed most of my acreage to save some money from Arden 15 (now discontinued).

My brother had a similar size yard with a mix of native and st aug. He nuked it with glyphoslhate then had it leveled. He had common Bermuda drilled and kept it wet. He had a lawn a month after it was planted. 2 years later he said his only regret is not paying extra for a hybrid.

How do you like it so far?

Rip Arden 15. The closest seeded Bermuda to a hybrid we’ve ever seen. IT’s replacement may be here by 2024

It's 13 days post hydroseed and here's what it's looking like. I'm really impressed so far. There are still a few areas that need to fill in, but every area at least has seedlings still popping up. I won't like my water bill, but it will still be cheaper than sod.

I assume I let this keep growing for about 3 more weeks before I worry about cutting it? And then once I cut it about 3 times I can treat it for weeds?

That looks fantastic. I have a bunch of Yukon seed that I want to overseed with to hopefully take over but it's been so dry I've just been waiting.

Thanks! We had a deluge of rain 2 days after the yard was sprayed so I was concerned that a lot of the seed washed away. I was definitely wrong. It hasn't rained since and the temps are in the upper 90s to 100.

Is it too late to hyrdoseed now? I have about an acre I was going to seed. But I was going to wait until next year because I figured the ground temps were too warm.

If you paid $2500 for an acre, I’d jump all over that.

I ended up paying more than that since he had to use more than we originally thought. I also had him bring in a few loads of dirt and do some dirt work for me. It ended up being just over $5K when it was all said and done. But I’m very happy with him and the results.

I don’t know when it’s too hot for hydroseeding, but this Daniela II Bermuda is going crazy.

I thought I’d have to wait at least 5 weeks to mow, but some areas are already 3” tall. When is the right time to mow?
