Would you consider incline cable flys or seated cable bench press the superior exercise?

Not for pump purposes, but for building muscle.

Edit* I’m asking because I’m looking for a good finishing exercise for chest. This would be after free weight presses, machine incline press, dips, etc. Dumbbell flys are out of the question because they don’t agree with me, so I’m left with cables. I’m not a fan of doing them standing, so I was thinking of either doing them seated at an incline or either do a pressing movement seated with the cables. I know I already did pressing, but you’ll have tension throughout the whole movement, so it would work your chest differently than a free weight or machine press.

Are you limited to these exercises for any reason? I don’t think anyone will tell you either is best as a primary movement for muscle building. If I had to choose, I would combine the two into an incline cable press.

Not really comparable. One is for upper chest and the other mid-chest.

*I always target mid-chest first, upper chest second and lower chest last.

They’re both fine exercises, so do them both! I typically do 2-3 variations of both presses and flys on chest day.

Just regular bench press is better than either

if i had to choose and they were the only two exercises i could do....i would do flat flyes to pre-exhaust followed by cable bench on one day and then incline flyes followed by incline cable press.

after a stall, i would reset and i would stop the pre-exhaust and switch order to have the flyes as a post exhaust.

but why would you be limited to only those?

No, just asking a question.

I didn’t think they were.

I’m not referring to the angle, but rather which is a better muscle builder. Make them both flat or incline if that helps get an answer.

I see your OP edit and that helps clarify.

Flat.
The middle of the chest is the larger muscle so I would target that given the choice of upper or middle chest. Angles are key though. Incline = upper chest, flat = middle chest. Build the larger muscle if having to choose

I’m asking which is a better exercise for muscle building when used as a finisher. I’m not asking about incline or flat, I’m just asking if cable pushing is better than cable fly movement.

I like cable fly’s because you can go into the negative position if your hands cross.

Also you can alternate these in with bench press and you’ll hit more of the muscle. Press, fly, rest.

I like to use a bench that you can set the back vertical and maneuver it in front of a cable machine for Flys. Obviously it only works on some machines. It has to be able to adjust the source height of the cables on each side.
