Our brains consist of about 20% cholesterol. Is that the reason that 'brain fog' occurs when taking statins? What about dementia? IDK

Hold up. They decease the risk of Dementia...

Statin use significantly reduced the risk of dementia compared to nonusers (hazard ratio [HR] 0.86; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.82 to 0.91; p < 0.001). It was also associated with reduced risks of AD (HR 0.82; 95% CI: 0.74 to 0.90; p < 0.001) and VaD (HR 0.89; 95% CI: 0.77 to 1.02; p = 0.093). Subgroup analyses revealed significant dementia risk reductions among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (HR 0.87; 95% CI: 0.85 to 0.89; p < 0.001), those with exposure to statins for more than 3 years (HR 0.37; 95% CI: 0.30 to 0.46; p < 0.001), and populations from Asia, where the greatest protective effect was observed (HR

so why is everyone obsessed with lowering LDL and what if no matter what I try it doesnt go down? everyone tells me with a 1300 calcium score im a ticking time bomb

Statins also help to stabilize soft plaque, often responsible for heart attacks when it breaks free and “clogs” a coronary artery, by converting it to hard plaque. CAC score often increases when taking a statin as a result of this conversion. If you have coronary plaque you want it to be “hard” (calcified), not soft. You have to weigh the pros and cons of a statin given your CAC score and family history.

Nothing to add except my cousin is a PA at a cardiologist office. They have offficially gone to not being concerned about LDL in and of itself for cardiac risk. Their own study on it they could find no correlation in their patients LDL score and risk of a heart attack.

Also, the biggest killer of cardiologists is cardiovascular disease. You would think they kinda had if figured out by now....

Why can't they figure this stuff out? I can make my LDL go up or down 60+ points in 6 weeks by changing diet. It's borderline high now. Had a calcium score of 8 2 years ago. Low triglycerides, decent HDL. Lazy PA brought up a statin when my LDL was way high, but I said let me see what I can do myself and showed I can do it. My dad had a heart attack at 55, I'm 47 but the health habits are nowhere near similar.

I actually asked my PCP for a low dose statin since high cholesterol runs in the family. Just wanted for more of a preventive. She didn't want unless my lipids became out of whack. TC was good, but my LDL was slightly elevated.

Started taking a half dose of red yeast rice. Lipids have never been better
