Lately I've been waiting 1.5 hours after waking up to have my first cup of coffee. Supposedly cortisol is spiked in the morning naturally and drinking coffee makes it spike too high. When I have coffee too soon after waking up I think I can actually feel that spike and its an uncomfortable feeling.

Does anyone else experience this? How long do yall wait before your first cup?

The length of time it takes for my keurig to warm up but I only have one cup in the morning to prevent the afternoon crash. I switch to decaf after the first cup.

How do you have the time? I exercise in the morning so need the coffee to wake me up and set things in motion. What do you do for the first 1.5 hours?

I've been drinking mudwater in the morning rather than coffee. Once I get to work I'll have my first cup.

I’ve been trying to do that too. Huberman ?

In general I don’t think it’s healthy to be so dependent on caffeine that you need to have it the second you roll out of bed, so I’ve been trying to wait a bit after I wake up.

That is the advice that many are giving. It's supposed to help negate the afternoon crash.

I generally don't drink my first cup till I get to the office, so its usually 1- 1.5 hours after I wake up.

For example, I wake up at 5:45 and I'm sipping on my first cup right now.

I don't have a problem with the afternoon crash.

I've been waiting 30 to 45 minutes most mornings, lately, or even a little longer, to see how it helps with sleep.

I do drink a lot of coffee, though, so I'm not sure how the timing is supposed to help someone like me with the myriad of other factors going on, but trial and error and all that rot.

Caffeine doesn’t affect me anymore as far as negative side effects like crashing—just helps to suppress my appetite. I don’t “need” it in the morning and I still take close to a gram a day

I do find it helps with the afternoon crash, but it's hard to do. I think it's more habit than anything.

I read it’s better to wait as well. Supposed to be better for your hormone levels. So I just do a bump of coke when I wake up and then drink black coffee around 10:00.

I try to wait an hour or so since Huberman had talked about it.

Water and greens powder first.

I always drink at least 25oz (size of my cup) of water before my tea or coffee. Hydration is key. Then 2 more before my afternoon coffee.

If you have to set a time when you can start drinking you may be a coffeeholic

Its been helping me not drink coffee for the first hour and a half of the day. After that I drink coffee and its much more long lasting alertness than first thing in the morning. It also has other benefits.
