Has anyone ever performed a study to see which one burns more?

I don’t know about training but standing still you would burn more in the cold.

If you’ve ever worked out at Red’s in Lafayette, you’ll notice it’s on the colder side.
Buddy of mine used to work there and said they kept it that way because ole Red said the colder temp ramped up your metabolism better.

Think about it, when it’s hot as hell outside and you’re having to do some manual work outside, it doesn’t take long for your energy/strength to decrease.

Burning calories has 0 to do with the temperature. It’s about moving mass (weight) through a displacement. Your goal is not to lose water weight. People are trying to burn fat.

You could argue different temperatures affect different people in different ways while they are working out. Mostly on how they “feel.” If you feel better you might go longer and/or harder and thus burn more calories.

Let someone break down basic life science for you….Jesus, I can’t believe I’m actually taking the time to write this.

Your body uses calories to live. Remeber that BMR business? Yeah, we have to eat to stay alive. Even if we do ZERO activity. Like just staying in bed.

Part of that is maintaining our magic body temperature of 98.7 degrees.

So yes, if it is cold outside and you are in the said outdoors- and not in some mega insulated suit that retains all heat (energy)- your body will have to burn more calories to maintain the temp it needs to live.

I’ve understood you burn more in the cold, because your body has to work harder to stay warm, but that’s just what I heard. I can’t really back that up.

You also age slower in the cold.

There's some study showing people do more reps if they cool their hands between sets or some such. So I guess based off that you can loosely say that cold temperatures burn more calories.

I’m sure it could be different for others but for me, I SHRED weight and calories in the heat.

On a calorie deficit, running two miles in the extreme heat, I’ve lost 30 pounds in 30 days. Two different times. Crashed my metabolism but I did it

I reckon you burn what you burn, regardless of outside temperature. I can sit in the sun and sweat, but I'm not burning a bunch of calories more just because my body is trying to cool itself. The only thing I'd suggest is you might burn more calories in the cold simply by virtue of the cold cools your body heat, making you more comfortable. In the heat, you'll give out more quickly.

This is the correct answer. Why did anyone downvote you? It's calories burned, not air temperature.
