Crit racing is about to get started up here too. Did one a few weeks ago but the bigger series havent started yet. Other than that, registered for State TT Championships in May and a few gravel races

Can anyone in the group recommend a good training plan for a complete beginner? An app would be good. Something like a Couch to 5k for runners? Maybe something targeted towards 30 miles or so.

Raced the Croatan Buck Fifty gravel race this weekend
I saw Dylan Johnson, Jeremiah Bishop, and Ian Boswell did that one. Also Jeremiah just did another impossible route through Big Bend. Looking forward to that video. How did the race go for you?

I was lined up right behind Dylan, Jeremiah, and Boswell at the start line and rode in their group at one point for several miles out on the course. I’ll post a few pictures when they are available.
I raced the Buck (105mi). Got 3rd in my category and 12th overall. Ejected a bottle I had to go back for in the first 20 miles and chased the lead 105mi group back down then dropped a chain at around mile 60 and was by myself after that except when the pros caught me at like mile 85 on their 2nd 75mi lap. I jumped in with them for about 5 miles. That helped me keep a gap as we were flying for that section I was with them. Was a long 45 miles alone in the wind other than that. Had to work pretty hard by myself as to not get caught by anyone. Luckily we put a ton of time on the rest of the field on the first 60miles stretch. Our team ended up with 4 podiums between the Buck and the Buck Fifty so pretty good day all around.
It’s an awesome event, brutally hard with the terrain and wind.

I saw several fast times on Strava for the LAMBRA ITT this morning. Congrats to everyone who raced.

I saw a couple fast time too. Wonder if it was pretty windy. Power numbers looked high for the times posted. Saw a guy I know do a 58 and some change but avg power was just under 300. Would have expected 300w to go a couple min faster than 58

<--- this guy. I ride it with my wife and her work's team.
Should be interesting. I like the idea of finishing in college station over Austin. closer to Houston.

TA, was that 100 miler I saw on Strava your race? Been waiting for a recap!

hello, mis amigos.
My 100-miler last Saturday was not a race. Rather, some friends and I decided to challenge ourselves with a 100-mile ride, and boy was it a challenge. We battled a persistent 8-10 mph E/SE wind the entire day. The first 40 miles I went north into central and north Harrison and Hancock Counties. This was a fast 40 miles. My average speed was 18.6 mph. Everything was looking great, until a fellow rider caught a flat which took much longer to change than we expected. We all got a little stiff because of the wait. We then went west and deep into Hancock County. It drizzled on us for about 20 miles, which really wasn't that bad under the circumstances. At that point, we were about 70 miles in and the sun was out. It was starting to warm up. We then had to finish the last 30 miles into the wind, which really sucked. I ended up with 100 miles at 17.9 mph. I just missed the elusive 18.0 mph mark on the 100, but I'm glad I kept pushing myself and didn't give up. I was not in a good place come about mile 80 once the sun fully came out.
My legs were fine by the end of Saturday, but my neck was sore. I never want to eat another peanut butter Clif bar again too.
I have a 10K race in a few weeks I am training for. However, I will also be putting a lot of miles on the road too. It is still my goal to bike 5,000 miles this year, although I'm behind the chains on that goal already.
I've been working on speed and I can tell a huge difference. I did 20 miles at 19.4 mph this morning. It pays to ride with faster riders! In terms of equipment and gear, I'm pretty much set. I will probably get a new helmet soon and maybe a Garmin Varia. The Continental 5000 tires have made a massive difference in my speed.

What does everyone have going on these days? Once I complete this 10K in a few weeks, I plan to ride as much as possible from mid-April to July. I'd like to average 150 - 200 miles per week and go as fast as possible. I'll probably do 15 - 25 mile rides during the week and a longer ride of 30 - 60 miles on Saturdays. I also plan to get in the gym on Sundays and do basic, compound movements. After that, I'll be participating in our local "Le Tour," which we model after the Le Tour de France but scale down to 1/4 or 1/5 of the distance. It's a lot of fun and an easy way to get 500+ miles in a month. I came up with the system last year and will be glad to explain how it works if anyone has any questions. It's not perfect because there are no mountains or hills around here, and we have to substitute bridge climbs in their place, but it's fun nonetheless.
Anyone ever done the Cheaha Challenge?

I've got State TT Championships coming up in about a month so doing a hard training block for that before tapering down. Other than that, few gravel races later in the summer and a lot of local summer time hammer rides

Got a couple of rides I want to do this summer First is ride to the top of Mount Evans and second ride to Winter Park with the road bike. Also want to ride up over Rollins pass and down into winter park and come back the next day. That one will require a gravel bike.
Oh yeah and non cycling related, aiming to do long’s peak this summer as well

Just did Texas 70.3. Not bad considering I only did 2 road rides in the last few months. My fitness seems ok considering I didn't do any hard training for it.
Now it's trail time. I'll just be doing MTB and gravel riding now. Do some long trail rides and train for some off-road tris through the summer.
Oh and the MS 150 at the end of the month.

That's awesome. I wish I had the time for those type of weeks again. maybe in 2-3 years I'll be back in that position.
