Power Meter and Garmin Edge coming in today

Posted on 11/3/21 at 2:35 pm to BlackCoffeeKid
What kind of PM did you get?

Pedal.
Garmin Rally rs100 to be specific.
Figured I'd be getting a new bike shortly and may as well have one that's easy to transfer over. Plus I like my SPD-SL cleats.

Bike Porn. My frame came in and I built my new do it all bike up. Problem with building a bike from take off and spare parts, a lot of the take off parts are take offs cause you didn't like them in the first place
I chose the Schwalbe Smart Sam tires because they have aggressive transition and cornering knobs for off roading but have a continuous center tread which makes them silent like a road tire on the street. It has good road manners but has long and slack off road geometry so it is even better when the trail get chunky and pointed downhill.
I've always said it takes about 1.5 road miles to equal the effort of similar elevation change on 1 mile on a mountain bike. After my first 2 rides I'd say a off road mile on my geared full suspension bike is about equal to 2/3 of a mile on the single speed. Some of those steep hills and punchy climbs takes a lot of core and leg strength I normally don't exert on a bike. I could really feel it in my core and legs after the rides. Some hard climbs I've pulling up on the handlebar as hard as I can like I'm doing a deadlift while I'm pushing on the cranks to be able to generate the power to get up the climbs.

That's why I bought a Steel fixed gear. Cheap and it's great as a beater. My saddle, bar tape, and saddle bag combined was about the price of the bike.

Anyone here ever use TrainingPeaks?
Have some work health benefit money to spend before the end of the year and thinking about pulling the trigger on it.

I know some people that use it for triathlons. I actually piggy backed off his training plan. We did the elite training and I had trouble keeping up. Physically I could, it was trying to run a business, raise a family, and sleep that got in the way. You basically needed 3 hours during the week and 4-6 on Sat-Sun. I got real fit though and then Covid postponed the event.
It was nice having a program laid out for you and you could somewhat schedule your training around it. But you can shuffle the training volume.

Actually ended up using the money on a yoga class subscription.
Figured it may help me with my hip and back tightness.
I've never done yoga before though so I guess we'll see
ETA: Bikram/Hot Yoga absolutely kicked my arse. That was brutal.

just picked up a used schwinn evolution sr spin bike. stoked - got it for $200. stoked - included spd pedals. not stoked - it weighed 125 lbs and i live on a 4th floor walkup
any insight on an app to track distance on this thing? as is there's no tracker - i could ride for an hour and no idea what that would translate to. any insight greatly appreciated, thanks

Don't think of stationary cycling in terms of miles. Think about it in terms of effort and time.

cool, thanks
hard to get away from tracking but yeah, just getting after it for an hour sounds good

Guys im sorry I shite the bed a while back on the Zwift group. I figure with winter coming up, we will all be banished to the trainer for a few months, so I will get everything completed soon and we can suffer together.

Do you live way up north? I'm in Dallas and can ride outside through the winter except for an occasional bad weather day.

I live in NWLA and can probably do the same now that you say that. Just started riding this year so this is my first "winter" season.
