Just started riding this year so this is my first "winter" season.
Invest in some good winter gear i.e cycling jacket, good base layer long sleeves, tights and the toe warmers hunters use. I put those in my shoes when its below 40 and I don't even need booties. I just got back from a ride in 75 degree weather.

I use mine e 3-4 times a week. And try to ride outside once a week at least

It's not really the weather for me, it's more of the fact that there's not enough daylight during the week in the winter.
I could ride on the levee in Nola at night, but I'd really rather just be on Zwift instead

I thought about that after I posted. I guess I'm spoiled since I have a 10 mile lake loop with some good hills with almost no traffic and a 25mph speed limit I can ride. Its a 10 minute ride from home through neighborhoods to get there so with good lights, its easy. I have been trying to get on the bike a 4pm this year though so only need lights coming home.

That sounds amazing.

My riding has taken a big hit with this cooler weather. I can’t skip running when it feels this good outside!

trainer season is really just Jan-Feb here. we've had some cold starts recently but lots of sunshine. been pretty gravel heavy. Off season wont last too long though. Registered for Croatan 150 yesterday, which is in March. fml

Pic from my ride I just finished. Would've been a nicer sunset about 15 minutes after I took this.

Did my first big mountain ride since July on Saturday. Went up lookout Mtn and some smaller climbs near evergreen. Ended up doing 85 miles with 6800 ft of climbing in 5 hrs of ride time. Avg. around 255 watts up lookout with more to give. I think if I didn’t have another 60 miles after that I could push it up to 275 for a real max effort for 27-28 minutes

Anyone have a recommendation for an iPad mount that works with Aerobars? AeroFlys to be specific.

I use an ironing board for my zwift/trainerroad setup. Have both fans setup at an angle and the ipad in the middle.

Anyone more into the enduro/DH side of cycling? My son (14) has gotten pretty serious about it (picked up a few sponsorships) and looking for some good off season training recs to build up some overall strength as well as sprint power/speed.
He also races NICA/XC and is competitive there but his main focus is on the gravity side of things.

A good friend of mine in TX races enduro. I got him into gravel earlier this year to build some endurance and he said it’s made a big difference

We need to get some more bikes for longer rides. He was doing them when he borrowed an XC race bike for NICA season, but long rides kind of suck on a big enduro sled. The gravel scene up here is huge with great rides available.
Just dropped a good chunk of change on a new race bike for Christmas, but a gravel or XC bike is definitely in the near future.

i initially got into it to supplement my road riding but with more and more gravel events/races popping up and me loosing my desire to leave skin on the concrete racing on the road with kids, i've kinda flipped what i'm focusing on. still love road riding and will keep at it but having alot of fun with gravel

Yeah. I have zero interest in road riding with the number of distracted drivers on the roads out there these days. Gravel is definitely appealing, though.

Anaerobic capacity and sprint power are the most important physiological parameters needed to be successful at Enduro. Lifts important for him to think about doing are squat, deadlift, and trap for lower body strength. I would really stress making sure someone teaches him these lifts because you cab frick yourself up pretty easy if not careful. For the anaerobic component, tabata intervals would be good. That looks like 40 seconds on 20 seconds off. The on should be at 150% of VO2 Max and the off should be soft pedaling. Each set should last for 5 mins. And repeat 3 times with 5 mins off between each set. These intervals would be much easier to complete on a trainer as well. Side note but when I have done these intervals they absolutely suck but they will make you fast
