It uses your camera to scan barcodes and give your food and other products a score out of 100 based on the ingredients.

We got it for our toddler to see if the food we were giving her was safe or not. Some of the stuff got such a bad score that we don’t buy it anymore.

I was also getting the Robert Irvine protein bars but they got a 3/100 for all the additives. Very bad but I thought they were a healthy choice. There’s a lot of stuff like this that used to be in our pantry at all times.

You can also use it for stuff like shampoo, some of the ingredients in modern shampoo and body wash are insane and can be carcinogenic.

I don’t know about that, there’s a lot of weird shite in food nowadays that can make you sick, and it’s intentional. Large food makers working with the pharmaceutical industry to make sure you’re never well.

Same people that faked the moon landing and try to convince us that the Earth is round?

If you trust big food and big pharma then good luck to you.

I don’t trust them. I just wish big food could find a way to include creatine and whey protein into my flamin hot Cheetos

I didn't say I trust them. I'm fully aware that my health isn't their highest priority. I just don't think they're actively trying to make me sick.

Or you can just read and not trust an app.

Where is Yuka pulling their info from? As in, how are they deciding what ingredients are bad for you?

I was curious about this as well and this is what I've found:

Yuka: How are food products rated?

Yuka: How are cosmetic products evaluated?

We certainly don’t obsess over use of the app, but we do find it very helpful to screen food— especially snack foods— for our toddler. It’s pretty eye-opening how awful some of the food marketed to children is. Good thing the FDA is on the job…
