The Miracle Morning - 30 Day Challenge thread
Posted on 7/30/18 at 2:53 pm
Posted on 7/30/18 at 2:53 pm
Have y'all heard of The Miracle Morning, a morning routine to begin your day on the right foot? It's all about becoming a morning person, and waking up an hour or so early to get control of your day and kill it.
I'll save you the money of buying the book and disclose the "SAVERS" steps that he outlines. I know some of these sound new-agey or contrived, but they're proven methods and a lot of very successful people start their days with. Ideally 10 minutes spent per step.
1.) Silence - Begin your day with complete silence. No distractions. Either meditation (guided/unguided), breathing exercises, or prayer. Really take in the moment and enjoy that peace and quiet to start the day.
2.) Affirmations - This is the part that sounds the cheesiest to me, but I've done it before and the premise makes a whole lot of sense. Basically, you positively affirm yourself of what you are, what you're striving to become, your purpose, etc. This is personal, and can be anything, really. I find it hard to make this last 10 minutes, so I usually do about 2-5 minutes.
3.) Visualization - Plan out your day, and visualize going through your day. Focusing particularly on the positive interactions and successes you'll have throughout the day. This can also be expanded into visualizing yourself achieving your long term goals. I find it hard to make this last 10 minutes, so I usually do about 2-5 minutes.
4.) Exercise - This is one of the most important steps. Get that blood pumping, and your body ready-to-go for the day. This can be anything from a quick 10-minute bodyweight workout, going for a run, or expanding for a full 1hr workout at the gym.
5.) Read - Read. Simple as that. Read a daily devotional/Bible verse, a good book you've always wished you had more time to read, heck - even TigerDroppings.
6.) Scribe - Pen a short journal entry. I prefer doing devotional or reflective journals if I choose to read the Bible in the morning. This can be anything, though. A lot of people following this plan choose to simply write down a few things they're thankful for that morning.
After that, you'll be in your best possible shape to tackle the day.
You can even wake up even earlier and use the extra time to get some stuff done around the house that you normally don't have time for.
Tips/Tricks:
-Don't have your alarm/phone within arm's reach. Sleepy-you is a dick and won't let you wake up on time to achieve your goals. Set your alarm clock or phone across the room or a few steps away, so you're already out of bed and getting the blood pumping.
-Drink a full glass of water. You're dehydrated when you wake up, which adds to the feeling of sleepiness and discontentment. Drink a full glass of water to quench that thirst and feel better. I like to add a pinch of salt and some lemon to my water for flavor, electrolytes and nutrients.
-If you think to yourself "Aw crap, it's midnight and I only have 5 1/2 hours to sleep! I'm going to feel exhausted in the morning," then you're going to feel exhausted! Self fulfilling prophecy. Instead, always tell yourself "I'm going to feel awesome tomorrow morning!" And likewise, it'll happen. It may take a few tries, though. Keep at it.
-Sleep in your gym clothes. This helps you feel more prepared and ready-to-go in the morning. You'll already be dressed for your morning routine.
-Brush your teeth right away. Brushing your teeth helps shake off some of the tired feeling, and the minty freshness helps invigorate your senses.
-Find accountability buddies. This is why I started this thread. I thought it would be cool to see how many people would like to try this challenge with me. Keep each other accountable and share our experiences.
So here's the challenge:
For 30 days, we commit to The Miracle Morning routine. That's it. We won't try to do it, we won't give it a shot - we'll commit to doing it!
We can share here the successes we see, tips/tricks we discover, challenges we face, and benefits we experience.
Is anyone in?

I'll join you.
I usually get up at around 7, and then scramble getting ready for work. I'm going to shoot for 5:30 AM starting Wednesday. I'll make a check-in post here at that time or shortly after.

As a kid and young adult I always went to sleep late and slept late.
I know wake up between 4:30 and 5:00 am during the week with no problems.
I get a ton of work done before 6 am and enjoy easing into my morning.

This is just a fantasy world for me. Complete (or relative) silence? I have a busy household, and at least one other person is up by 6am; all three school-age kids are up by 6 on school days.
I generally get up around 5:15, my wife as well...it's some of our best time together.
Maybe I'll give this a shot the next time I travel for work.
When does coffee come in?

I call this sleep.

I would love to start this tomorrow morning because I have been trying to train myself to do morning workouts. Some days I get up and go, but most days I revert back to my afternoon routine. This would hold me accountable for week days, but I just don't know how I could pull this off on weekends.

I get more done from 5-6 am than most hours of the day. It’s he only hour I’m up by myself.

What sucks for me is the second I get up, I have to let some barking dogs out to go pee.
I only dream of silence

Checking in for 5:30. I didn’t get to bed until late last night, so I kind of feel crappy, but the feeling won’t last long!
For those saying silence doesn’t work- I feel ya. If you’re not the only one up, and you don’t think you could wake up earlier, possibly try sitting on a back patio? Or just in another area of the house? For barking dogs, that could be very tough, haha, but not impossible.

I do a cup after “Exercise,” but that’s only bc I find it hard to work out or run with a belly full of coffee.
