I would recommend warming up fully, but not overdoing it. Complete the workout or block, then stretch while cooling down

I know a lot of long distance runners stretch after.

In my 30 years at the gym, I never ever hurt my self stretching. I'm stretching not a contortionist. That's the purpose of stretching is to "stretch" the muscle so you can workout without injury.
Especially mobility stretching. Go ahead and take your warm up squat and try to get depth without doing any stretching or mobility work and compare it to when you stretch. It's night and day.

I personally recommend active mobility before and something to prime cns then stretch after but if it works for someone the other way, do it

The science does say to stretch after as before can lower performance but for us gym rats it’s much more important to stay healthy and be consistent, we just trying to win at life not on the field

One reason not to stretch is you gotta fight for a rack or bench when they’re open, especially in January

"A waste of time"? Michael Jordan, from his college days through the end of his pro career, stretched for an hour before each workout. It's been noted that he is / was one of the most flexible players in the game. Of course, he is / was a world class athlete but if it worked for him............but do keep it simple, as it's too easy to skip it & get straight to the weights.

One of the best things I did in my late 30’s was move my accessory work to before the main lifts.

I might move a little less weight in my work sets, but I feel a ton better.

Favorite warmup stuff
-Assault bike 5min
-Banded HS curls before squats
-BSS before squats
-DB RDLs before deadlift
-Ring Rows before deadlift
-Hanging scap retracts before squats or bench
-Inchworms before bench
-Sled drags/push before anything

Your warmup sounds like my workout

All joking aside I usually just stretch and do 5 minutes on the elliptical before lifting to get loose

Then I do a "light set" of whatever lift I'm doing before I get into my actual reps

Might not be scientific but it works for me
