Symmetry

How important is symmetry to you?
After my workout yesterday I was flexing in the mirror and noticed my right bicep is much bigger than the left. It shouldn't really matter right? I'm not a bodybuilder or anything, I just want to be healthy and look good naked.
It kinda bothers me though. I'll have to get some dumbbells to even them up.
Also, totally unrelated, anyone else get high before lifting? Always have a good session when I do.

I'm actually ambidextrous in that event.

Name checks out lol
I don’t have any noticeable symmetry problems from one side to the other. My issue is I have big triceps and no biceps at all. Hoping that once I drop some weight it won’t look that way anymore.

I’m right handed and my left bicep is actually slightly larger than my dominant right side.

I’ve developed symmetry issues with my left pec. My garage floor is a tad uneven and I think the slope of my bench has impacted my physique.

I’ve got scoliosis so my spine is twisted in addition to being curved. When I belonged to a commercial gym I was able to do a lot more isolation exercises so it wasn’t a big deal. Now that I’ve got a home gym I’m doing more compound movements. I’ve got a pretty good imbalance in my pecs and lats. I try to use dumbbells or cables as much as I can to correct it.

Everyone is asymmetrical and no one will ever be perfectly symmetrical
Nothing wrong with trying to chase it to some extent, I just wouldn’t get hung up on it

Put cardboard under the low side of the bench and use a level to make sure it’s even. That’s what I do.

I have mild scoliosis as well. You’ll need to do mostly unilateral exercises to make sure everything is symmetrical and so you aren’t putting strain on your rotator cuff. When I started 18 years ago, I didn’t do this and I constantly had rotator cuff issues and my left side always lifted higher. I don’t do much that isn’t unilateral now, but I was able to even out my strength on each side, so that if I were to do a flat bench it wouldn’t look crooked anymore. You have to really focus on keeping your shoulder blades retracted as much as possible and have an arch in your lower back.
Vertical pulling exercises like pull-ups never caused an imbalance, but I always do unilateral rows or dumbbell rows for horizontal pulling. My lats are not uneven. You may want to check and make sure that the mirror isn’t playing tricks on you. Your lats could be the same size, but because you’re leaning in one direction, one could just be higher or rotated forward more and gives the illusion that it’s smaller. The only way you’ll be able to know for sure is by looking at your lats from the back.

I've never worked out in a way to not have symmetry, but my left pec and bicep are more developed than my right.

Left pec is not quite as developed as my right. I play a lot of sports and have some Achilles tendinitis at times, which causes me to slightly favor the other leg when walking or running. Therefore, I have to often focus on squats & lunges form to not favor one side. I often go for a preworkout drink + one-hit - just for the mild effect.
