I can see the strength gain part but I feel it certainly helps when you run out of gas. I’m a bigger athleye too and can only do so many, snaking helps & I do find it more efficient when I’m tired. I actually learned the technique at an L1 seminar so I know not everyone is anti-snaking

i agree that it helps when you run out of gas and you're right not everyone is anti-snaking. if the only way you can do burpees is by snaking go for it but i think in a training environment you need to use as close to perfect technique as you can and it pays off in the long run.
I may have had different trainers at mine but its been 3 years since i've attended the L1

re: Started Crossfit
If you want to be a faster burpee person you gotta pop em up

My problem w a lot of programming is that they use high numbers of reps for things like burpees

You give me 10 burpees, I move pretty good and get better

You put a rep sequence of 27-21-15-9 and I start snaking and walking em up to keep moving. By the time you are at 15 it is hard to revert back to a regular burpee.

As a bigger guy that is just my burden I suppose. I could always pass on those kolaches

re: Started Crossfit
I feel there is a lot of confusion regarding how to perform best in a WOD based on a particular participants level and what would make for the best training.

The stricter version of a movement will probably always be better as a training tool.

re: Started Crossfit
I agree with you. Give me 10 & I can do them perfect. But when you have to pace I’m going to revert to what will conserve my energy. Snaking still taxes my arse just a little less

Yeah they did, and at GCF we did an "18.0" WOD that involved a lot of burpees, and they encouraged everyone to try the new burpee standard. Most people are not happy with the change

Just don’t have the drive I once had when I first started it. It was something I always looked forward to but now dred it. Any other of y’all ever expirience this?

Yes, but never for that long. I usually take a week or two off and then buy a new piece of equipment or supplement. That gets me a little more pumped than normal.

I think I’m going to try and get serious about it again. For those of y’all that work out at home, do y’all follow programming from a website or just write your own?

I think I may try to do the grey skull base program for strength and just add a light metcon a few days a week.

re: Started Crossfit
Today was day #3 in a row and I'm toast after this one. Need an off day, joints are achy. A member of 4 years is moving away so they gave him a WOD.

10 minute amrap
-3 squat clean - Rx was 205..I did 95 and still struggled to keep form.
-6 bar facing burpees
-30 double unders or 60 singles.

I didn't step up any burpees, and didn't step over the barbell, but they slowed me way down. But I want to get out of stepping through stuff as much as I can.

When we do burpees in warmups, I always scale them. There are no no-reps in warmups.

When we are doing them in the workout, I’ll follow the new standard.

The other day in warmups I was just going to plank position and walking back up and both Amber and Patrick said simultaneously "UH-UH, no more of that for you from here on out"

I like that one. After the second round the squat cleans would blow.

I wish Lester. I’m not very good at cleans.

re: Started Crossfit
Sorry guys, I have not read all through this thread, but I had a quick question... Now that I think of it I could of just asked my brother and his fiance bc they are CFers, but I always forget when I see them. Anyways, do y'all have music going on when you train?

I just always need some music on to really get me going as well as other people working out with me.

As of now I workout at the FitShop - high intensity training, kickboxing/boxing, agility, squats and so on. But they always have the music going and a mic on. TIA!

Yes. Someone is always playing music. Mostly rap or rock.

I'm weird and like classical music when I work out, so it's nice when I'm the only one in the gym and I can put it on.

Although when someone walks in they always seemed weirded out by it

re: Started Crossfit
Classical music is probably best

I don't listen to much of it but I can see how it can help you stay more in focus that rap
