Blame also needs to be laid on the farm lobby. They love seed oils.

They don't, though. We just end up with a bunch of sickly humans that you and me have to pay for.

I went through our pantry and fridge last night, it was shocking how much seed oil is in everything. We always have used butter and olive oil for cooking, but damn, seed oils are everywhere

The only oils you want to cook with/consume are olive oil, coconut, and avocado

You have to really research Olive and Avocado Oil. They are often found to be blended with Toxic Oils.

Yes. As attuned as I am to the whole thing, I still routinely find myself surprised. I think the most pernicious is sun/safflower. They sound good and are actively promoted. But the really are among the worst.

Have you watched this youtube about how canola oil is made?

UGH

I think canola oil is the biggest sham of all. It's complete industry hoodwinking. First of all, it's the rapeseed. This "canola" nonsense was made up so it would seem Italian and pretty. And if you watch the video, you'll see it's a disgusting, multi-stage chemical and industrial process to extract oil from a fricking tiny seed. Also, it smells bad, so it has to be treated for that.

In the spirit of fairness, here comes the deep state denial brigade:

Scientists debunk claims of seed oil health risks

You'll noticed one of the main quoted figures is the dynamic gentleman who gave us the new food recommendations showing Lucky Charms are healthier than a whole egg.

I am trying to understand the angle of people like this.

Is it because cutting seed oils will be a huge blow to the movement to remove meat from our diets?

It’s bc of the farm subsidies to corn and soybeans.

Most people know this already, no?

Not even close to most people. First and foremost, most people still think vegetable-type oils are better for them. Then from there the vast majority of people have no idea oils even exist in dry packaged foods. If you are into fitness and health, we are a very small bubble compared to general population.

Yeah, that might be part of it. Or, stated differently, it just seems like it's "non-vegetarian" - which is now the altar they worship at.

Just saying "vegetable oil" is an industry snow job.

Yeah, really well stated. I think the average person would think you were literally insane if you told them casually that butter was much better for you than canola oil.

You mentioned Jeff Nobbs, here’s a tweet up he just posted today with lots of great info:

Jeff Nobbs
@jeffnobbs
Something's changed in the last several decades that's led to skyrocketing obesity rates, but what is it?

Here's why calories, sugar, exercise, and red meat are unlikely drivers of obesity, and why seed oils are the most likely culprit from an epidemiological standpoint

Eating too many calories and sweets (sugar) are often blamed for rising obesity rates.

But average sugar consumption has decreased and average caloric intake has remained flat for the past two decades while obesity rates grew more than 40% (from 30.5% in 2000 to 42.4% in 2018).

The CDC cites lack of physical activity as a primary contributor to obesity and recommends we "aim for moderate physical activity for at least 150 minutes a week."

According to those guidelines, Americans are actually exercising more today than we were twenty years earlier.

Some people blame red meat or saturated fat for weight gain.

But meat consumption has increased only nominally since the 1960s, and the increase has been entirely from poultry.

We are also not eating any more saturated fat, cholesterol, or sodium than in previous decades.

Vegetable oils (seed oils) may be the most likely culprit.

While total calories have remained flat since the 1990s, calories from seed oils have increased 30%+.

And since the 1960s, while consumption of all other fats has decreased, consumption of seed oils has about tripled.

Globally, more vegetable oils are produced every year than all chicken, beef, cheese, and shrimp combined, and our consumption of these oils is predicted to grow significantly faster.

Seed oil consumption is the most significant change in the human diet since obesity rates began to rise.

These oils are now the most consumed food in the world after rice and wheat and make up 20% of our daily calories.

They are the most likely cause of our obesity epidemic.

But this is all just correlation. Next up, I'll show the randomized controlled trials and biological mechanisms linking seed oils to obesity.

In the meantime, check out the white paper on the subject at LINK

Nice, thank you!

It really is bizarre how beef has become the whipping boy for everything.

Agh yes,

These oils were originally used as engine oil and lubricant.

Butter, tallow, ghee, lard, duck fat, and coconut oil are all great!

Lard is a good bit worse than the others. Here's a handy chart I use:

You'll notice 2 of the darlings of the gastronomic elite - safflower and sunflower - are among the very worst.

So use olive oil, coconut oil, or butter? Got it.

Check your protein shakes as well. Many brands use palm, canola, sunflower, or safflower oils in them. Avoid these and try to buy a cleaner whey isolate. I find vanilla or chocolate don’t often have all that crap it’s usually flavors like cookies and crème, brownie, Froot Loops, strawberry crème etc.

I wouldn’t cook with olive oil but it’s ok to use as a dressing. Once it hits its smoke point it will oxidize. Ghee, butter, and tallow are better for cooking with.

Well, maybe not olive oil so much for cooking. And good luck sorting this out at restaurants or with seemingly healthy store-bought foods. shite is absolutely littered with this crap.
