Saw some gorillas yesterday...

At the zoo. I asked the guide about what it would take to conduct my research in proving/disproving their strength (I’m not a scientist, but an accountant & entrepreneur. This is for fun.). According to him, the primate keeper said their exact strength is unknown. I went on to explain how top-level strongman and primates are strong in their own ways. He agreed with me, and told me how to contact the keeper.
Not related to lifting routines and general health/fitness, but interesting enough to be on here since it’s strength-related.
And to those who dislike- frick off you intellectual dwarves

i'm ing the downvotes.
i get your statement. i'd love to be able to train a silverback to do a bench, squat, and deadlift and then compare that to man's ability.
honestly a monkey is the only animal we could compare ourselves to in an anatomical sense to compare strength.

I like the idea of you standing in front of the gorilla habitat muttering "My God, that beautiful primate has amazing sumo deadlift leverages" to yourself.
In fairness, I've watched Jurassic Park and thought the T-Rex is basically built to low bar squat, but there's the cruel irony that it can't with arms that length unless it has amazing shoulder mobility. If you can get the T-Rex into Kelly Starret's shoulder mobility routine, that thing is dominating. The downside is it's definitely going to eat the judges, competitors and audiencce after.

Primates are one of the strongest species on this planet
Mountain lions may be the most explosive since they can jump over 40 feet high with a running start

Their lower center of mass means that some lifts will be a sinch, while others will be nearly impossible.

Set up a barbell loaded with 605 in their habitat and see if they will walk over to it and deadlift.

Would y’all believe if I told you a gorilla teeth and their bite is stronger than a shark or a lion?
Posted on 3/17/18 at 1:23 pm to The Silverback
I’ve read where it’s believed that a gorilla can lift 2,000 pounds overhead

Chimps are exponentially stronger than humans. I cant even imagine the strength of a gorilla.

Gorillas lower bodies aren’t very strong. They can barely stand up for very long so I doubt they could squat or deadlift very much at all.
They could probably bench quite a bit but their arms being really long would be an issue.
In the case of all the exercises it’s not a natural movement for them and they would probably tear something in the process.

When I was a kid in the early 70's I saw a silver back gorilla at the Chicago Zoo take a tractor tire that was strung up for a swing and with both arms squeeze it together like doing a pec deck move. The resistance of that tire had to be incredible, no way any human could be that strong to do that.
