I recently found a new PCP, this is the first physical I’ve had since my pediatrician/college sports physician.

I’m 34 male, 6’1 190 skinny fat you could say.

My cholesterol is 260, Triglycerides 262,
HDL 32, LDL cholesterol 184.6, HDL 11.9, and total cholesterol/HDL ratio is 8.4. Obviously, this is concerning. I fasted before the blood was drawn.

My diet and exercise has obviously lacked due to fast food and laziness due to shift work. These labs are what I needed for a wake up call.

I’ve been part of a club for 2 years for the pool and splash pad for the kids. This is my second week of no fast food, working out 3 days a week, walking every evening, and eating healthy.

I’ll have labs done in 3 months to check any progress and see if I need medication which I’d like to avoid if at all possible.

All of that to say, I’m glad this board exists, and I’m looking forward to learning from all of you who take the time to post your expertise.

Lifting heavy weights regularly will do wonders for your cholesterol, or at least it did mine.

Number one: stop drinking calories on a regular basis. Easiest hack out there.

Socially. Have never been one to get home from work and just need a beer. I’ll drink 2-4 times per month. Never excessively.

Cut out things like sweet tea, colas, lemonade, etc. I just drink water and black coffee.
Also try adding weight lifting to your execrise program.

Not sure how much that affects cholesterol. Lifting weights and walking a ton made mine perfect. I didn’t quit drinking.

The hdl/trig ratio is a better record of what’s going on. If your hdl/trig ratio is over 3 then your ldl particle sizes is smaller and denser.

It’s best to get that ratio under 2, golden under 1.

Alcohol raises trig and suppresses hdl. Processed foods do the same.

A diet of low processed foods by simply shopping the edges of the supermarket should drastically improve these numbers. With those numbers, I’d ask for a calcium CAC scan as well to start tracking calcium buildup in your heart’s arteries.
