Questions about Testosterone Replacement Therapy

I’ve done my research on this, and based off previous bloodwork, I’d like to give this a shot. My only hold up is cost. This shite is expensive as all hell, and it seems like none of this is covered through insurance. Anyone know of any places that do accept insurance, or have other cost-friendly ways of going about this?
I’ve attached a link to this place called the remedy room as an example of price

Well…..a review of the Remedy Room.
Dr. Mary is easy on the eyes, however.
Dr. Mary is easy on the eyes, however.
quote:
Dr. Mary is a scam artist of the highest order. She claims she can help legitimately sick people with chronic illnesses, when she has no qualifications to do so. She pushes Doterra essential oils on her patients (which is illegal) and makes wild and false claims about their health benefits. Other doctors in New Orleans have voiced their concerns about her practices and the legitimacy of her license. She's honestly a maniac. At first, she will seem wonderful. She validates your illnesses, which is an incredible feeling when you've been passed around from doctor to doctor with no clear diagnosis or treatment. She assures you she can help you get better. And then she insists you buy all of her "Dr Mary" branded supplements. Yes, it's literally got her name on it. She'll scam you out of thousands and thousands of dollars in your desperation, and only then will you finally realize that this woman is a con. This woman is dangerous. She gives medically disastrous advice, especially when it comes to "block fasting" and the ketogenic diet. Look, there's nothing wrong with keto or intermittent fasting, it works for lots of people. But Dr. Mary will PUSH AND PUSH them on you. She tries to get you to go 5 days without eating a thing. Nothing. And she pushes this even on people with serious blood sugar issues. Her partners have left her and her con game of a "practice", probably for fear of going down with her when her license is finally taken away. She should be shut down for good.

There are dozens of TRT docs in NOLA and BR that take insurance last I checked (5 years ago). I know one in BR that takes almost all the major ins carriers.

Insurance will only cover for initial blood work (wellness) and testosterone injections. They typically do not cover creams or pellets.

if your blood work shows you need it than get your doctor to prescribe it. Its covered if so, should be subq shots twice weekly.
if in houston, go see baylor medical department of urology.
if you are just thinking you want it, blood work doesnt qualify you, and are done having kids and dont want to pay the cost of a trt clinic do what whiskey said. but dont buy from a gym bro, find a legiot forum online and get from a source that lab test their raws. you can expect to pay about 35-50 per vial on black market from a source that lab test.

Are Lousiana docs now actually pushing SubQ? If so, that is great! Especially for TRT doses.

I have been doing it for 3 years now and yet to find one that takes insurance. I did go to my Endocrinologist at a hospital clinic and it wasnt covered.
My blood work shows I qualify.
Ill take any recommendations for a doctor in BR that takes insurance.

would be worth the drive to baylor medical in houston than. I go once a year in person and then do a video coference 1 other time. submit blood work, they reveiw, discuss for 5 min and then on your way. may be able to do both visits through video.
initial will be in person though.
i see dr mohit khera at the depeartment of urology. world renowned.

My urologist does it through insurance in Thibodaux. You have to have two separate lab draws before 10am that produces values that warrant treatment.
I don’t get treatment through him because at one of the clinics I work at we do testosterone therapy and I get free pellets.

The testosterone itself is very cheap. I pay ~$30 for a 10ml vial that lasts 3 months. That's prescription with GoodRx discount, not UGL. Labs are typically covered by insurance but YMMV. The doc visit itself isn't covered by my insurance but I only see the doc in office once/year (with a few phone/online consults sprinkled in) and that office visit is ~$250.
If you're looking for TRT via telemed:
Defy Medical is well thought of in TRT circles
I'm a fan of Elevate Mens Clinicand would probably use them if I didn't have a good local doc
There are others including Royal Medical and Novus that I know people who've used with success.
Those are "all in" clinics where you're paying a flat monthly fee that covers consults w doctor, labs, medications. They are NOT "Low T Center" like you see in strip malls - avoid those like the plague.
There's a lot of good, and a lot bad/wrong/outdated info out there on TRT. Do your homework and become actively involved in your own healthcare in this area as you should in all others.
Spend some time consuming the TRT and Hormone Optimization channel on YT
I'm late 50s and have been on TRT for a couple years - it's been transformative and that's an understatement. But it's not a light switch, it' a process.

I’ve been with Defy Medical for almost 6 months now. It’s not cheap but they’ve been worth every penny so far.

I asked them if they realized they were not the only player in the game. These clinics are popping up like urgent care centers

Your first consult with Defy would be $250. Then you can have a consult with a Nurse Practitioner for $90 on follow ups.

Any reason why you recommend them?

Sounds like you want this and not necessarily NEED this. If needed, your insurance would cover. Mine does. Been on it for years.
