I didnt realize 3.0 had been started. I remember back when 1.0 was current. I didnt participate much then. In any case, I am glad to say I saw the 100s for the first time in a while this morning. I started in april at 227 as a 5-10 guy @ 37. This morning 199.5. Goal is 180ish, but the number isnt as important at where I'm at with running and hiking.
My top 5 rules?
Strive for no sugar, low carbs, but go nuts if it has fiber. Not easy when I work a lot and wife cooks for herself and our toddler. but, it's what I try to keep in mind. Some of these are obvious like desserts, but watch out for the non-obvious. Good thing the labels are starting to include added sugars. Thats the big one and avoid it as much as possible. For that matter, stay away from processed, fiber-less foods.
Simplify day/work lunch and other eating. I eat sardines on toast with avocado damn near everyday and love it. I also make my own ranch dressing and pack a salad everyday. That store bought stuff is too thick and causes you to overdo it to coat a salad. And speaking of eating, call it quits by nightfall. You can call it intermittent fasting or whatever, but allow your body to process what it has. Let your liver process what is left and your body will do the rest while you sleep.
Get into running and enjoy the process. Don't think about what is the least you can do. Think about how you can improve on what you just did. I managed being able to barely run .5 miles straight to crushing 2-3 miles. Just when I think I'm proud of 10 min miles in that, shoot for 9:30, and so on. Reward yourself with clothes and shoes for running.
Lay off the alcohol. Seriously. If you expect to make any real progress, quit or moderate. If you find yourself having trouble with that, then there is likely a deeper issue you need to work on. Matter of fact, it's likely causing other issues of over-indulgence.
Lastly, rely on your numbers from your bloodwork. Go to your doctor and schedule labs. Look for key things like BP, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL, Liver toxins. Go online and find out what these are and why they matter. Get that HDL around 60 and triglycerides as low as you can.

Okay, finally coming over here to find the thread :)
Summer has been busy. I broke my hand & haven’t been able to play tennis. Diet/exercise motivation has been nonexistent. Thankfully, I’m maintaining, but I need to get my arse in gear. Are you still doing keto?
was wondering where you have been.

I'm still chugging along too. After I got back from vacation I was following my dietician's plan and weighing foods to make sure I was eating the prescribed portions.. but I was not logging. I last weighed in a bit over a week ago at 266, which means I put on a couple of pounds over vacation but not as severe of a gain as I initially thought. I've started tracking again this week to ensure I'm eating correct amounts and not letting myself sneak calories. Still hitting my workouts 3-4 times per week, and have been seeing improvements in my capabilities in the gym. Hit my first Rx WOD on Monday. I'm going to weigh in again tomorrow.
Endocrinologist thinks my thyroid is under control since my TSH is at around 2.6, but my free t4 is still a little high, and haven't tested free t3 in quite a while. I still find myself being more tired than i probably should be, lethargic, etc. I'll be getting more bloodwork done tomorrow to re-check free t4, free t3, TSH, and the antibody test to find out whether I have Hashimoto's or not.

The rest of the crew too!
MCL strain last thursday. have been using a lot of ice and rest this last week, going to try heading back in to leg day today, lighter weight lots of reps and just see how it goes.
I feel... off lately. schedule, stress, diet, energy level, everything really is just a bit not right. I need to reeval and reset I think, or something, I dont really know. I feel like everything is running at half speed and my brain is frustrated with that.

Dinner tonight: Pan seared shrimp seasoned with old bay, baked chicken thigh seasoned with salt, pepper and cayenne and roasted eggplant seasoned with oregano. Eggplant is legit.

I guess this is where I should put my SW/CW/GW. Although lately this isn't about the weight in and of itself. I'm enjoying running. I'm really working to lower my mile time over the course of 1 mile sprints, along with 2 and 3 miles tempo runs. My favorite is probably the 2 miler. My best two mile lately is a 18:08, which it goes without saying is a 9:04/ mile pace. I'd like to break 18, then 17, then really crank down and get into the 16s. I feel pretty good about it considering I couldn't run a half mile straight a few months ago.
In any case, for the record...227/201/180.

Damn, thats rough Georgia. Went to the Dr.? Sorry, I haven't read the earlier posts if there were any. I feel like when all the other stuff gets in the way and you can't do the all the things I know I need to do to stay healthy I at least focus and make one or more are. E.g. too much work and can't find time to run, I make sure and eat healthy. If I can't get my normal nutritious meals in I make sure the stress doesn't get overwhelming and I can still get to the workouts. Just do what you can, but make sure it's a priority.

I don’t really have a target weight. Just keep grinding till I’m healthy.
Posted on 8/15/18 at 12:16 pm to DeafJam73
Yeah I put one in just based on what this BF analysis scale tells me is "fat free bodyweight"
I'm pretty confident I won't be under weight at that number so it's a preliminary goal

Well, last Friday I got my test results back for thyroid antibodies and I have Hashimoto's.
Component Your Value Standard Range
Thyroglobulin Ab 377.6 IU/mL 0.0 - 115.0 IU/mL
Thyroid Peroxidase Ab 224.0 IU/mL 0.0 - 34.0 IU/mL
I was planning to start up Keto soon, but with the news of definite autoimmune issues, I decided to dig into AIP - Autoimmune Protocol. I've decided to start up with that on Monday. The majority of people with Hashi's are middle-aged women, so most of the websites out there are geared towards them. At first, it felt hard to find info that didn't feel MLM/Sales-ish but then I found this site which has a plethora of info.
There recently was a small study done for people with chron's and IBD - with drastic results
The long and short of it -
They are soon going to be working on a study for Hashimoto's, currently an Indiegogo fundraiser that already met its quota.
This decision isn't for weight loss - it's to see if I can send my autoimmune issue into remission. If done properly, I'm sure some weight loss will occur, if nothing else just because of decreased inflammation and improved health.
It's going to really suck for a while, but the results could be worth it. My endocrinologist thinks my thyroid is under control now but I still often feel like shite, so I remain unconvinced.

“Clinical remission was achieved by week 6 by 11/15 (73%) of study participants, and all 11 maintained clinical remission during the maintenance phase of the study. We did not hypothesize, a priori, that clinical remission would be achieved so early (week 6). Indeed, this proportion of participants with active IBD achieving clinical remission by week 6 rivals that of most drug therapies for IBD . . . (Konijeti, et al. 2017)”

No but I will check him out, thanks.

AIP isn't keto, but if I don't see improvement in my antibodies I'll probably try keto with AIP protocol as well.
The protocol advises against a lot of intense exercise so I'm questioning CrossFit, but I am not ready to give that up yet. I will have to get my carbs from sweet potatoes and roots.
Eggs + nightshades will be hardest for me to give up, I currently eat 3 eggs with breakfast pretty much every day, and I dump hot sauce all over all of my food

Good luck to you, Hulk. I hope it all works out.
Only lost a pound in the last two weeks. But, I did drink the last two saturdays. No more alcohol for a while. Boy. Football season will be tough.

Day 2 of AIP in the books. Hardest part so far is caffeine.. I've had a headache for two days now. Hope that clears up soon.
Oh and hot sauce. I miss hot sauce.
Otherwise it's not so bad. I couldn't imagine being on the SAD and switching to this though, that'd be tough.

Went through a mild depression for most of last month. Binged probably 6-7 days a week for 4-5 weeks straight. Got up to 230 (normally around 220).
Last 2 weeks have been looking up. Getting some exciting things going around me which reduces my wants and urges for food.
Ate dinner at 8pm and am doing a 40 hour fast. Will probably do another fast on Sunday. Then I am going to apply the principles Martin Berkhan lays out in his new book. (Slow reader, so hopefully I finish by Sunday)
