take your measurements at the naval so that you can be consistent with the measurement.

Mine is 36.

6’ 205
34 waist in jeans, sometimes 33

I don’t look fat. Last time I did the navy calculator i think I got 17% bf.

I don’t understand how people gain strength (in their 40s) while holding onto a true 32/33” waist.

they get to around 10% BF and then focus on size and strength using slight surplus until it BF% creeps up to the 15% range, cut back to 10% and restart.

c. Godlike- 45%

2. Chest-multiplier times waist size

b. Great- 1.35
c. Godlike- 1.4

3. Arms- percent of waist in inches
a. Good- 46%
b. Great- 48%
c. Godlike- 50%

have a little more bodyfat to get rid of

Greek God-

5. Incline Bench Press- all for 5 reps
a. Good-1x
b. Great- 1.2x
c. Godlike-1.4x

6. Weighted Chin Ups- all for 5 reps
a. Good-30%
b. Great- 50%
c. Godlike-70%

7. Standing Barbell Press- all for 5 reps
a. Good- 0.7x
b. Great- 0.85x
c. Godlike-1x

8. Barbell Curl- all for 5 reps
a. Good- 0.55x
b. Great- 0.65x
c. Godlike-0.75x

I don't ever see me getting to Godlike on incline or chin ups. Definitely not chin ups My best is a sloppy 40%. Standing press is the only one I think I could get Godlike in. Only need another 7.5 lbs.

getting to be that time of the year again where everyone starts trying to hit the gym

here are some good goals for yall to look at trying to hit

as always...

1) hit your calorie & protein goals(musclehacking.com has the Leangains calc which is a great place to start)

2) hit 8k steps per day

3) lift 2-5x per week progressively

4) be consistent and be truthful with yourself

I’m 52 and 6’1. These standards are very high. I lift 5x per week. I do have a 31” waste but there’s no way I can rep 92 pounds on shoulder press. I weigh 185. My bench press is 225 for 4-5 reps and my deadlift is 340 for 5 reps and my squat which is my weakest lift I’ve done 310 for one rep. I’m in pretty good shape but those standards seem very high. According to these posts I’m just doing okay. I’d like to think from an aesthetic perspective I look pretty good and not from a 52 year old man view, but at any age.

No offense as you are doing great and better than 98% of people but your strength is pretty low overall

But for 52 you are doing great. Many didn’t get in early in life to build a strength base early

Don’t worry about where you are anyways vs the standards as the standards are more like extreme goals anyways

Just strive to be better month over month

My body tends to be very thin. My wrists a person with normal sized hands can wrap their fingers around my wrists and have their fingers touch.

I wear a 31” jean, but that doesn’t mean my waist is 31”. I probably have a 33” waist is my guess.

My lifts above are what I can do as a set. Meaning, 340 in sets of five, bench 225 in sets of five, etc. still not super strong by any means, but at this point, I’m going more for aesthetics than strength. Past a certain point, what is the point of a 500 lb squat or DL? Just my view, mind you.

well in almost all cases gains in strength = gains in muscle. atleast past beginner cns adaptations.

I’ve seen some dudes that are super strong that look like ogres.

Your point is well taken as there are many that are very strong that also have a very sculpted aesthetic.

Protein Protein Protein.

You have to prioritize protein and train hard. Get proper sleep. Be very disciplined and in my opinion use fats instead of carbs for energy. It’s all about proper diet. Gym helps but you are not going to out train a bad diet.

Personal preference. I’d rather look like the guy in my gym repping 505 for an easy 10 on squats and 405 for 10 on bench. I’m definitely not there, but it’s how I would like to look

The dude that can hit 5 plates a side for an easy 10 rep set on squats and 4 plates a side for 10 on bench looks like Brian Shaw or Ronnie Coleman with the gear. Those measurements are definitely not checking the boxes on the list in this thread because using his body metrics he would probably qualify as a gigantic fat arse. However that dude is probably strength wise in the top 1% of all dudes on planet earth. Yep I would love to look like him as well but with all things being said, you probably would not be the healthiest of individuals.
