I get my Kickr in tomorrow night and am excited as hell to get started. But this will be my challenge: I’m really at stepping on the gas, but as a triathlete my week should consist of more zone 2 (HR 115-140) stuff more than anything. Do you have a way with Zwift and the Kickr to get a lot of longer, easier stuff in and still enjoy it?

I get how people can dismiss the peloton bike but it means so much to those of us who own one and use it religiously. Without it, I'd never have bought a real bike and participated in an outside bike run. I credit peloton for getting me outside and learning to enjoying biking through my neighborhood. I'm trying to work my way upwards to biking twenty miles multiple times a week (although it's a bit cold right now). Jennifer Jacob's 60-90 min climb rides were great for training. I've yet to do power zone rides but there is a 90 minute one with Matt Wilders on this Saturday.

You can do anything you want with Zwift and erg mode. Just get on a virtual course and ride. Let the resistance change with the virtual terrain and switch gears to whatever power you feel comfortable riding.

Or, set up a pre- programmed workout and let the resistance change based on preset power targets (best way to train).

Or set up like the first and race people. Can get pretty tough as there are plenty of people with some legit watt/Kg numbers.

I got rid of my erg mode trainer since it was on the cheaper and was acting glitchy. Resistance dropping in the middle of a 4 hour rides ruining my weekend. I went with a "dumb" trainer, but have a power meter and still utilize zwift and or trainer road to set up workouts. Pretty much bullet proof. Just cant really do the mode where you have the resistance change with terrain, but can still manually change resistance to hit training targets.

What the peleton people d idk not realize is there is a huge community regularly doing these group workouts online in the Zwift community for a much cheaper monthly fee. What Zwift people dont realize is peleton people probably aren't motivated by the same things in their workouts.

I thought long and hard, and finally ordered a peloton this week over a road bike\ipad set-up. I sometimes work 10-12 hours a day, so being able to just come home and hop on with much thought was the deciding factor. Also that my girlfriend can use the bike too was additional factor.

I get it delivered, so we will see how it goes. I lost 30 pounds this year just by modifying my diet, but hit a wall. Hoping this will allow me to burn off another 15-20 and get where I really want to be.

Welcome to the Peloton family!

>
There are peloton fb groups you can join for tips, etc. The main one is the "Official Peloton Member Page". There is also a subreddit for Peloton that is really helpful as well (r/pelotoncycle).

Have you and your girlfriend choose your leaderboard name wisely if you are gonna do live classes and want shout outs from instructors. Make it something they can easily read during a class. They will give shoutouts for milestone rides (50th, 100th, etc). Sounds cheesy...but it is kinda cool and motivating when the instructor gives you a shoutout.

When you get to your 100th ride, you will get an email from Peloton for a free century ride t shirt. Just have to pay $7 for shipping.

You and your girlfriend will both also have access to the Peloton digital content on their app. There are ways online you can read about to mirror the app to a tv for off the bike workouts. Otherwise you can just use a tablet, laptop, phone etc if you aren't able to easily see the bike screen when doing off the bike workouts.

You want to buy a mat for under the bike so you don't damage your floors/carpet with sweat. If you are putting the bike on carpet you might want to buy a small sheet of plywood to put on carpet and under mat for more stability of the bike.

This. All of this is so true. I've seen pictures of puddles of sweat from people on that mat (I don't sweat like that but I have some sweat but these are like huuuge puddles of sweat) so definitely get a mat to protect your floors.

The Facebook peloton group is awesome as long as you don't ask certain questions and get offended at the smartass answers (some people get really offended at the blatant sarcasm as you'll see if you join) and once you find your favorite instructor on the bike, join their page and they'll give you updates on upcoming rides as well as have different fitness challenges. Alex Toussaint, Ally Love, Jennifer Jacobs, and Matt Wilpers (especially Matt for power zone training) are the ones that come to mind for this. The community is really helpful as there are so many people training for different races and are able to provide tips on which rides they took to help with preparation. I'm often inspired by them and am hoping to start running 5ks and other races next year.

Excited for you and I hope you love peloton as much as those of us who own one do. And if you don't, I guarantee there's someone in your area who will gladly buy the bike from you lol

Also...if you have an apple watch...it won't directly pair with the bike to display heartrate. You can buy a chest strap of arm strap that will pair to the bike.

I bought a Wahoo HR monitor chest strap for $50 on amazon. Syncs to the bike and the free wahoo app on my phone. There is arm band version for like $70 that is supposed to be even better than the chest strap. Look on the fb group or subreddit for more suggestions on pairing up a heart rate monitor to the bike. I think there is a way to pair up your watch if you use another app(Strava i think?).

As for the shoes...I just bought some on Amazon. Found ones that were compatible with spd cleats and look delta cleats (what comes standard on Peloton). My husband mountain bikes and prefers spd pedals(that is what he has on all his bikes) so he switched out the pedals on the Peloton after we had the bike for a couple weeks to spd ones. The look delta pedals/cleats weren't horrible....but the spd ones imo are soooo much easier to clip in/out on the bike.

Also...think about all the stuff in your house on wifi. If you ever have connectivity issues with the bike...look into that(are there things you can turn off wifi while you ride, etc). Good wifi connectivity will influence where you place the bike as well. Make sure that where you place the bike...you have enough space to put your arms out on both side and space behind you if you do any rides that has an arms portion included. Would also want space at least to one side of the bike to do one of the 5 minute after the ride stretch classes they offer.

This bad boy helps too. Blows a ton if air. A regular oscillating fan isn't enough for me. Aim this at me and it helps a lot. Still need a rubber mat. I can create a pond under me

My husband just naturally sweats a lot. The bike and mat is drenched when he is done.

We got special cleaning wipes as well to clean off the bike with. Made to be used on gym equipment so won’t damage the bike. Got electronics wipes to clean screen with.

ETA: would love a fan like you posted. But ours is in a spare bedroom so I have to make do with ceiling fan and a clip on fan that I clip into the bike. Those stay cool towels that you wet to get cold help as well. I have a scarf sized one that I activate with water and wear around my neck when I ride. My face gets easily flushed and warm during cardio so it helps with that.

I have this one from Amazon opolar fan it gets the job done and is helpful to have for when out of the seat climbing. As far as mats go I'm sure there's something on Amazon, but I just bought the mat from the boutique when I signed up for buying the bike.

I have one similar to that. It has a small sponge in the back. You can moisten sponge with cold water and it will blow cooler air.

I aim it right at my face. Wish it was a little stronger but it still helps.

ETA: Wish I would have known about the $100 referral code you can get from others when you order the bike.

Good stuff, thanks.

I did have to order a different pair of shoes as I have pretty big feet. I ordered a pair of pearl Izumi studio shoes.

Definitely looking forward to this. I’ve been going back and forth for a while now, and I just finally said I’m just going to do this.

You will really love it. The day they delivered our bike I felt like a child on Christmas morning I was that excited

You and your gf's butt/upper legs will be sore at first cause of the seat. You can get some padded shorts or just tough it out. Usually after a week or so it isn't as bad from what others tell me. I just ride with padded shorts cause that is what I wear whenever I ride my hybrid bike outside.

1 ride in!

Did the intro ride with Ally Love. She was annoying, but thought it was decent introduction.

Yeah you have to find the instructor you like. Each one has their own style. Christine and Jennifer Jacobs are more mellow and tend to have a lot of really good music in their rides (90s Rock, 80s Rock, 70s rock). Jennifer Jacobs also has some metal in her rides as well. Denis also is great as well music wise.

Download the app and you can easily bookmark on demand rides you want to do(you can bookmark from bike as well). You can even search on the bike by music artist and find rides with songs from that artist featured.

I don't get the downvotes on liking Jennifer Jacobs and Christine d'ercole

Anyway, I didn't see anything in the boutique that i didn't already have it wanted. Maybe a cap but I'm going to the stores here on Monday to see what's left over.

@Southernelite, how do you like it so far? Maybe try Matt Wilpers or Denis or Alex. If you don't like soul cycle, stay away from Emma and Cody rides as they sometimes incorporate the tap backs and other things since in soul cycle minus the push ups on the bike.

There are some really lame people that likely have tiny dicks that downvote any of my posts when they see it. Pay them no mind.
