15.7 (3.5hours) On trails this morning. Started before sunrise and was able to make it to a hill to watch the fog roll out as the sun came up over the wood line. Average HR was 141, topped out at 158, this pace used to have me in the mid 160s on average before I started the 5 day a week 1 hour zone 2 training, so there may be something to it after all. No snakes, tons of deer, and I ran through every spiderweb ever made so it was a great day.

How long have you been doing that Z2 training?

Right at 2 months pretty religiously. Never done it before, bought a treadmill and track it as well as i can with polar chest strap, if it hits 128 I'll bump it down. I'm able to get in way more sessions since I can get up at 345, have the baby monitor rolling and "steal" an hour as I call it. I do that 4-5 days a week, at least an hour per session, up to 90 minutes.

I started Z2 stuff in May and was so frustrated with it. Now I have started to enjoy it. Easy, low key, 45 mins of zone 2. Then when I finally can run I feel like I have a ton of energy just to let loose. I do find myself wanting to focus on pace more than HR some days so I need to balance myself better on that.

I max out Incline on treadmill and have speed in the low 3's, my hr will nestle around 125 with those parameters. My mind tells me I'm not accomplishing anything and I've noticed my flat/downhill speed on trails is roughly the same, it might be a touch slower, but I've gotten in the habit of power hiking the hills instead of running them and peaking my HR. That is where I've noticed the biggest jump, used to id be so smoked up those hills it would take a few minutes very slow jog on the flats to revover. Now hr stays between 130-155 out there which feels great. Don't know if that's entirely zone 2 training or the shift to keep hr below 160s at all costs, or the fact temp and humidity are starting to fall, but it seems like it's working.

When I started I found I climd jog for 90 seconds then would need to walk to let it come down. Over time it built. I measured the % of every run spent jogging and not walking. Now 45 minutes is easy at a 10:45 or so pace. It is a good jog but not so much that my Garmin tells me my recovery time is 48 hours. I aim for 3 days of that a week when I am not traveling. I hated it in the beginning but now it isn’t so bad.

Tuesday Run 4.26 13:15 pace/146bpm.

It was a hot one again, but it feels like it's getting a little easier to run. I'm training for the Cowtown 1/2 Marathon in Feb. It will be my 2nd 1/2 and the 1st one in about 11yrs.
