raced my half in the Metaspeed Edge. I read that if you're more of a cadence guy you want the Edge, if you're a stride length guy you want the Sky.

I need a gate analysis. I have no real clue where my stride hits.

I should clarify this. I know I'm a heel striker on my right side. I don't know at all where my left hits.

Bought some Asics Superblasts today. Plan on using for long runs only

I use them for everything. They're a great all around shoe. I will eventually get another plated shoe, but for now, these are my daily go to.

I didn't get one before I bought my Metaspeeds. If you check your watch after a workout you can get a pretty good idea of which one you want if you subscribe to the stride vs cadence test. My cadence was 187 for a half so I was solidly in the Edge.

Do you have any carbon plated shoes? If so, which ones? And which are your favorite?

Metaspeed Edge

Thanks.

I’ve watched a lot of videos about the new Tokyo’s and the Edge sounded better for me as a heel striker. Running is a relatively cheap hobby and if I buy an expensive shoe that I only wear on race day, I can live with that.

Nike Alphfly. Worth it?

I’m not an expert and probably the last person to give advice. What caught my eye was the poster mentioned the Superblast, which I like, and thought I might like his choice of racing shoe, too.

From a cost perspective, if you like the shoe and only wear it a few times per year, it’s going to last a while. If you can make it work in your budget, why not?

Haven't tried the Alphafly, but if it's anything like the Vaporfly it won't work for me. Especially if you're a bit of a heel or mid foot striker, it's like wearing a frying pan on your feet. I just couldn't get it to feel good.

As a distance runner, is it bad to be a heel striker? Is it something you can train out or are you a heel striker primarily due to one’s build/hip tightness?

Not necessarily. If your foot strike is naturally that way and you don't have any injuries from it, you're fine. If it stems from some kind of muscle tightness or imbalance or you start to get injured then you can worry about trying to correct your form. But in most cases, actively trying to change your form leads to more injuries than it prevents.

I'm an Asics brand ambassador so disclaimer but I've never had a bad experience with their carbon shoes. I've gotten bad blisters from other brands but the Metaspeed line has always fit great, no blisters and they are fast. They may not be flashy like the Alphafly but they get the job done. It doesn't feel like you are going fast but then my watch buzzes and im surprised at the lap time

I am a forefoot striker and the Rays for sure are for forefoot strikers only based on how they feel

I only wear them in races though. Not even a break in run.

How do you go about doing something like this? I've wondered if I could get some deals with a company like Novo Nordisk or Insulet to at least get a singlet or maybe my entry fees paid for

Oh I have zero issue with Asics shoes except that they seem to never go on sale. I was just pointing out they fumbled the marketing on the Edge and Sky.

This, and more. So many people do that and end up injured. Your gait is natural to you, your body physiology, etc. I'm a heel striker as well and I tried to change my gait.

Guess what happened? You eventually forget and you cannot keep it up over longer distance runs anyway.

So George, you're good my man, just find shoes that work for you as a heel striker.

I only want a gait analysis because I'm a data freak, and I've never seen fully where I strike. I just want to see it in motion.

No carbon plated, but i do have two pairs of Saucony Endorphin Speed 4's. Honestly, I'm not a fast enough runner to benefit from carbon plating.

Some people just love them. The Superblast foam is so thick and responsive, I don't feel like I need a plate.

But I do occasionally run in my Endorphins, and they are super light compared to my superblast.

The guy that asked about the Alpha Fly, to hell with that! I thought I was going to break my ankle, they felt unstable as hell for me.

Shoe recommendation for everyday use. No true speed workouts but tempo, Z2, distance up to 18-20.
Recently had Evo sl and NB rebel v4. Preferably $150 or less but that’s near impossible

Boston 13? Zoom Fly 6 is supposed to be good if you don’t mind a plastic plate. Trying to think what would be on sale right now that fits that bill…because like you said, $150 or less is tough lately. Maybe something from Puma? Velocity Nitro 4 is the same foam as Megablast. Deviate Nitro 3 is a fan favorite too.

Well, 5k went over like a turd in a punch bowl.

Had a slightly sore throat Wednesday, legs felt a bit achey Thursday and Friday, woke up with a totally clogged nose this morning. Cleared my sinuses and went out to City Park and just figured I’d give it my best shot…best shot lasted about 1.8 miles, unfortunately.

Another year, another failed Corporate Classic.

Also, this weather, no bueno.

Be good enough to podium at an Ironman branded race wearing or using their shite

I don't get paid but I do get wholesale prices and other freebies like socks and t shirts
