Anyone got race shoe recommendations? Normally race in VF Next% 2, tried out some Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2’s this morning but they aren’t right for me. How is the Adios Pro 3 or 4? I have some Boston 12’s that I like aside from the sloppy upper. Wondering if I might like the Adios better than a VF. Also not opposed to Nike VF3.

My last few races have been in the Asics metaspeed edge. They're pretty nice.

I really like the VF3 for mile, 5k, 10k. For half and full marathon, I like the Alphafly 3

Don’t see myself running a full anytime soon. Most would be half. I’ve heard the VF3 is a little less aggressive vs the Next%2 but the fit is better. Do you find that to be true?
Asics have always interested me but they are kind of hard to find and never on sale. Have also heard they are very firm. Wish there was a place that just stocked all the super shoes so I could try each.
Was really hoping the Pumas would work, but a little too much ground feel for me. Seemed like I was running right on the plate. They felt good at speed but I also felt like I had to work harder to keep the pace if that makes sense. Maybe I need a little more stack and a more pronounced rocker. My ideal shoe would be a plated New Balance Rebel V3 with 5mm more stack

The best way I can describe my experience is that the VF3 is a bit more springy and doesn’t provide as much stability as the VF2. I find the VF2 kind of rocks you forward, whereas I don’t find that with the VF3–it springs you forward. Basically, if I were to roll an ankle in one of them, it would be the VF3

Good info. I like a good rocker, not sure if I’d like the VF3. Too many damn shoes out there to try. How does anyone find a Goldilocks racing shoe without spending a ton of money?? Sheesh.

Me and a buddy have talked about how nice it would be to be able to "rent" a running shoe, or a subscription service where you could try different shoes and send them back. Put a device in it to track miles, can't go over xx distance etc. Don't think it would ever work, but would be neat.

Agreed. Would be tough to implement. Suppose could order shoes and try them on a treadmill then return if they don’t work. I don’t have a treadmill and don’t like running on them.
I’m trying to work a deal for some Diadora Gara Carbons right now. Out of left field option but they look sweet and sound like what I want

My stroller era has begun! 5 Miles on Monday, 1 mile on Wednesday, and 5 miles today! My 3 year old loooves it, except where I went Wednesday
- she likes group runs and to chat with everyone the whole time.
I've also done 2 split runs this week - 6 mid day and 5 at night with the stroller on Monday and Thursday.

Welcome to the club! That stroller builds some dad strength. My easy pace (without stroller) dropped 20 seconds per mile after I started pushing my son for 75% of my weekly mileage

lol same here. I figured out not locking the front wheel makes pushing the double bob manageable. I’ve been taking the girls for 4 mile runs the last few Saturdays and they love it. .

My girl is almost 2 and taking her out for a run is still the fastest way to get her to sleep. Within the first mile, mile and a half she is out. You using a BOB?

Mine started this way and then now there is a 50/50 chance they get pissed off when I’m at the half way point and I have to hear then fuss and cry for 2-3 miles. Really put a damper on my runs but I have a new toddler that is old enough now to give it a go.
I just signed up for Houston Marathon so I’ll be participating in this thread with you fine folks. I ran back in 2021 so this will be my second time ramping up for a full. I have some work to do and weight to lose but shooting for under the 4 hour mark which would shave off about 30 seconds/mile.

my move now is to run a few miles with the dog, come home, and grab the kid for a few more.
she is almost 4 now, so I got a speaker playing music, books, and snacks to keep her entertained. Luckily, she likes P-funk, Prince and a few dead songs so its not all frozen that I have to listen to. I loop around the hood and end up at the splash pad.
When she was around 2, there wasn't a limit on how long I could run with her in there. Only reason i ran the marathon was cause I was running with her 10-14 miles in the dead of that brutal summer a couple years ago. Figured i'd never be in better shape.
trying to get myself back in shape after the second came last fall. Just been running slow miles with the dog since then. Did 400 x 10 today and thought i might die.

This ain't the OT, we are a bunch of struggling young parents who spend all our money on running shoes, I can't afford a $650 stroller
I do have a nice jogging stroller though, it's a Graco ($250 compared to $650 though) - not BOB Quality, but good enough
ETA: That being said - I might get a BOB on a Marketplace used if my daughter continues to join me, I've heard incredible things

Bro I got my BOB from a yard sale for $50, I was going to tell you to hit up some sales or marketplace if you wanted to get one haha. It was worth the 50 I paid but there's 0 percent chance it's worth 650.

Bob or Thule are best and they are plentiful for cheap on FB marketplace. Upgrade, you won’t regret it.
You can also occasionally find deals on Amazon. We paid under $500 for our double Bob brand new.

I was doing hill sprints at the trace tunnel in Mandeville today. As I finished up a rep, a guy sprinted up the ramp too and told me "thanks for the motivation." Was that one of y'all?

Not me. I’m 24 miles south of you.
