16.2 @8:18, 131 HR. Cardio is zero issue whatsoever, legs definitely started feeling it the last couple miles. Flag should be fun later

Always knew your cardio was fine so not surprising

Just remember, for the full marathon you are still 4 miles away from the halfway point at mile 16. Also you might think I'm joking, but when I'm pacing a marathon 2 things are always true:

1) I never end with the people I started with - I have a group I run with the first 16-18 miles, and then the people I pickup after 20
2) I always tell the first group I start with "the marathon doesn't really start until mile 20" and it's true in a lot of ways - at that point you are running the hardest 10k EVER, and the entire marathon is won or lost in that last 10k

That being said:

I think at this point you could run @ 10:00 minute miles and STILL finish before 4:00. Race day you are going to be going faster than 8:18 as well, you should be able to sub-4, I say go for it

Completed my first ultra this weekend. Stump Jump 50k in Chattanooga. Course was a beast with 5500 ft elevation gain and very technical terrain. Moving was very difficult yesterday

Did you follow a prescribed plan? What was your general training plan like?
I found a plan that is 13 weeks long and has a max run of 24 miles and weekly of 56. I may trim that down a couple just so I’m not beat up from the long run

The training plan I did wasn't focused on having one really long run but more on having back to back days of longer runs. Back to back 10 mile days, back to back 12 mile days. I ran a marathon in December so I was coming off a pretty serious training block for that. I didn't do enough elevation training to prepare for 5500 but I completed it and that was ultimately the goal.

Gotcha ,, I ran a marathon in mid January and was somewhat following higdon plan and ended up with IT band issues. Took about 6 weeks to recover. Hopefully adding more volume and not skipping leg days during workouts will alleviate future issues.

Between sickness going through my entire house and the kid not sleeping well, my mileage has been crap. On top of that, world road running champs was supposed to be in San Diego and they announced last week that it's cancelled/relocated. I was going to treat the all-comers race as a family vacation but that's shot now. Might need another fall race to take its place if they don't reschedule it soon

Would someone care to recommend light, comfortable running shoes for a beginner? Thanks in advance

well that's a loaded question:

1) What are your goals?
2) Have you ever run before (in a structured manner)?
3) What are your goals?

Took some time off last week minus two short runs. I had what felt like a bruise on top of my left foot that was concerning me. In addition to that, work was busy my motivation was low. Did a few mile repeats this morning and my pace was slowed.. probably due to eating like trash this past weekend.

Sunday I am running the Zydeco Half Marathon in Lafayette. Weather is looking decent with starting temps in the mid 50's. 1st goal is 1:45:00, 2nd goal is 1:42:30, and if we want to go crazy with what Garmin race predictor suggest, a 1:40:15 would be a stretch goal. Easy run tomorrow and going to run 3-4 miles at goal pace Wednesday to see what I should actually aim for. Kinda kicking myself for taking a week off over fear of a potential injury.

If you have a local running store in you area, I would suggest going there and let them help you pick a running shoe.

Did pretty much same 9 mile mixed tough trail/pavement run that I did prior weekend.

Pace at 11:25/mi vs. 12:48/mi previous week.

You inadvertently did a taper week, congratulations!

If this is a race for you, and you want to do good, don't overdo it this week, you are actually already on the right track from the statement above

You should be resting for 2 weeks before a race - don't overdo it this week either, your body is healing, just make sure to do a few miles with strides the day before to stretch out the muscles after healing, and do a mile warmup before the race and you should be golden.

This is my big race mainly for the reason of getting into corral A for WDW marathon in January 2026. Anything under 1:50:00 should be a sure thing, but I want to see how much I had improved since LA half this January. A 1:42:00 - 1:43:00 finish time would be over a 10 minute improvement.

Valid point. I just feel unprepared after only hitting 7:30 pace on the 3 mile repeats when the previous effort I was in the 7:15 range. Probably over thinking it.

Probably not the most popular race to discuss on here, but today was registration day for marathon weekend at WDW. Registration went live 10:00 AM EST and all spots were full by 11:19 AM. I am amazed by the demand for the race. I was lucky and got a spot for the full! It will be my first marathon since 2019, which was also my PW at the same location. Looking forward to seeing what I can do and perhaps a new marathon PR that would have been set in 2015.

3.5 miles at 8:30 pace. Fastest 5k to date despite moderate wind and with some hills on the route. Gotta say I enjoy a long slow run a lot more than a shorter “fast” (relative) one.

You do you man, whatever keeps you moving and wanting to run you should go for it.

I haven't run since Sunday, it's weird talking days off during a training block but my right ankle where it connects to the shin was in excruciating pain and it was causing me to not want to run... So I'm gonna recover until it doesn't hurt. No need to push myself so hard I end up with an injury again, it's not worth it
