Crescent City Classic is worth checking out for a 10k
I love the CCC. If you're right on the edge, competing for a top 500 poster can be fun too. Usually the cutoff is around 43 minutes for men but it's been a little slower lately due to out of towners staying away.
That stretch down Esplanade will mess with your head. You can see for miles ahead of you and you're nowhere close to the finish. Then when you get to City Park, you can see the finish line but actually have over a mile left.

September was not a good running month for me. I had to miss several runs while my wife was out of town with her dad in ICU. ( I am not mad about this, just pointing out why I missed runs I guess. We have two small children that I cant just leave in the house and they are to big to put in a stroller.) I also had a close family friend of mine pass away last week. Things happen we cant plan for. During the time off my knee which is trash anyway, felt much better until I went for a run this morning. Took nearly a mile for it to feel "normal" at a very slow pace. I will try again tomorrow morning to see how it goes. I want to run the Louisiana Half, so while I had a little set back it's not the end of the world training wise. I was up to 11 miles for my long run 2 weeks ago.

another 6 miles down - ran up to King's Chair at Oak Mountain (846ft of Elevation Gain)
Took it fairly easy and had fun, actually feel good post run. Going to try and wake up tomorrow early morning and do my 6 mile run before work to give my body a full 2 days of rest before the 50 miles on Friday.

Yeah, and I work about 3 minutes from Oak Mountain, have a season pass and try to go as much as I can.
Also, t-minus 2 1/2 hours until Grandma's Marathon opens up!
Grandma's is going to end up being my longest training cycle to date (a full 7 months + the month after Tunnel Hill which I will spend trying to recover) haven't found a good Marathon between January and June that I want to put time and effort into. Will probably try to find a good Half Marathon to attempt a sub-1:30 at though, February and March have some pretty amazing Halfs I might put my hat into.

I'm running this too. You've got plenty of time. A 12 week training block for the Louisiana Half won't even start until the end of this month!

I forgot while playing with my daughter and didn't get into the que until 7:30. I hope I don't miss out, though I don't think I will

3 easy miles at HR 140. 3 tempo miles at HR 166. Paced 8:25 on the tempo. 200ft elevation on both.
Have a 10k this weekend. Still trying to decide what to do with it. It’s a 5k that you run twice, which I hate. It’s an Oktoberfest race so it’s a beer run. Fun run it? Training pace it? Try to PR it?

I have slowed down to 9min pace, and average HR is upper 150s. That's progress for me. Also helps that mornings have been cooler. My usual 3.5 route before work.

A bit of speed (for me, at least) today:
2.5 warm up
6 × 3 min threshold (7:30ish) / 2 min recovery
6 × 1 min 5k (7:00ish) / 1 min recovery
2 mile cool down
Total: 10 miles / 9:06 pace
HR: Avg 143 / Max 161

Right now I'm leaning towards running the Mississippi River Half Marathon, looks pretty good. If the weather is right it'll be awesome to run across the Mississippi River and get a massive PR in the Half at the same time.
On a side note - if I want to BQ I will have to run sub 1:30 for an entire Marathon; so if I'm serious and want to try and BQ, this will be a great test of my strength and will.

I’m probably doing the Big Beach Half in Orange Beach for the third year in a row. Worth considering imo. Well produced race and lots to do in the area. Weather can be iffy but is generally cool. Only weird thing is some of it is run on a wooden bogwalk type path that leads into a ramp to cross the main highway around mile 10 or 11. This is the main elevation in the course, but it ain’t much.

Don’t tempt me.
How are you liking the SC Trainers so far? Still haven’t run in mine because my Gel Nimbus 25’s won’t die - easily the most durable shoe I’ve ever owned.

4 x 1k w/ 2:00 recovery this morning. Quick assessment of my current 5k fitness. Was able to hit 6:40/mile average on each interval. Definitely got some work to do if I want to hit 19:59.
