I don’t think the issue with running 50 percent of your miles on the long run is an injury concern for that long run. I think the issue is that your quality of miles for your other runs is diminished.
If your running 20 just to run 20 and that’s the day you can get it in, cool. If you’re training and the quality miles aren’t there with speed work and the tempo or hill work, what’s the point?
There is no magic number of miles you run in one setting or week that your body goes “okay I’m fast now”, it’s about making the miles you do run count.
I’m capable of making my long run 25 miles (which would be about 50 percent) but my other workouts would be garbage because I’d be recovering from running 25 fricking miles. Lol.
By the way none of this is meant to flame or appear insensitive. Just my 2 cents. Cheers.

Got a pretty decent 10k in tonight while traveling. 51 minutes.
But I can tell I haven’t done enough long runs in a while. 2 or 3 breaks I shouldn’t have had to take. Hopefully cooler weather and the end of kids sports will get me more time out there.

Decently tough 10k scheduled for tomorrow. But I'm halfway to drunk. Hopefully the cool front offsets a hangover. Its amazing how a shitty week at work screws up running.
Also torn between doing a 10 mile race this weekend and pushing it a little followed by an easy 3 miles later that night, or doing a planned easy 13 mile run.....its just so much nicer running with a thousand other people with drinks and food provided. Especially with the expected weather.

72 this morning and low humidity. After not being able to do much for a week and a half, today felt awesome.
1.5 mile warmup
12x 45” uphill sprints jog back down.
2.5 mile tempo
Cool down.

7 miles with the hills. Strong fall wind in my face was like a beautiful, glorious parachute holding me back.

Slow and easy 6 this morning @ 8:50.

I used your time pyramid method for some speed work yesterday evening with some good results. I built in 1:30 rest periods between runs so that I could keep my pace a little more consistent. Tried to work my way back up the pyramid, but only managed to get back to the 3 min run. Had several neighbors ask if I needed a ride home between runs, which indicates I was doing them right.

Think I’m gonna do this today. Is the rest a jog or an actual “non moving” rest.

I stick with the fast pace walk as to not lock up any. It also looks funny standing in front of a neighbors house shirtless for a minute and a half. I sorta wish I had worked up to a 5 min run and back down. I wasn't totally gassed after the first pyramid, which is why I tried doing another.

Just throwing this out there. Cats are creepy as frick. On my walks I see cats all the time and they're always staring at me like I'm a headless horseman.
One was creeping me hidden behind a mailbox this morning and scared the ever living shite out me when it tore out from under the mailbox. I wanted to punch it's future kittens

Somebody talk me out of spending $400 on a new running watch

Seriously though, $400 seems excessive for a running watch. Are you looking at a watch with a altimeter and barometer?

They are getting absurd. I paid $199 for my 920xt two years ago. It was a year+ old model at the timeand a refurb, but perfect working condition and nothing else was much better. To upgrade to the latest triathlon tech now is like $500 and people talk about this watch like its obsolete.
On another note, 6 mile run today with 4 miles at a tempo pace. Even though I was a little hungover, felt great due to dry cooler weather.

Speed work this afternoon. Did the pyramid workout mentioned earlier here.
1m warmup
1' 7:07 pace - 1' rest in between sets
2' 6:34
3' 6:35
2' 7:02
1' 7:06
1m cool down
Definitely nothing to write home about. Felt sluggish the entire workout.

i'm owning this week bitches.
7 mile trail run in Mission, Texas. It sucked because i spend half my time looking at a segment to run it on Strava. got to the last mile and the path was flooded out. not that i would have got the leaderboard, but pissed me off.

Well, I’ve mostly been looking at the 645 and 935. Both of them have some features that I don’t really need, but they also have ones that I would really like to see (the advanced running metrics primarily). Both are pretty pricey though

I still use a 220 with a heart monitor that was a hand me down.
If you’re not going to keep it on all day, I’d go used or refurbished. Maybe the Garmin 35 but I’m a cheap bastard.

Look up DC Rainmaker for reviews. That guy goes overboard on reviews and gives a pretty honest opinion.
About the only thing I really want on my 920xt that I don't have is optical HR. But at the same time, I'd probably still wear a chest strap until I felt confident the numbers matched as I've read quite a bit of negative reviews on optical HR in general. Id rather run with no HR data than bad data.
All the other stuff is lost on me, and I really like my gadgets. I've got my live tracking cycling head unit, power meter, swim functions on the watch, etc. that I like to play with. But all that has been on pretty much every garmin (outside of live tracking) for years. I use very little of all the new features.

Maybe in miles, but no one is touching my elevation gains. 14ft over 15 miles. I'll be putting in a 20k on Sunday, which should add another 8ft of elevation.
I did put in a sub 52 min 10k this morning. PR for the year. Had an incredibly slow first miles due to the chill, so I had some gas left in the tank at the end. Going sub 50 min before the end of year is now a goal of mine.
