Alright, quick weekend update:
1:51:21 for my Half - wheels came off at mile 10 when my HR spiked to 192, it's what I get for doing 800m Intervals and a Tempo run during the week. (and I actually got to run with the same pacer I ran with at my Marathon! That was actually kinda cool, she was out there just running with one of her students)
I'm not going to complain though, to be able to keep that pace after a pretty grueling week has me very hopeful about my current training plan.
Then on Saturday night got a go to the Annual Party for our Running Club where I stayed up way too late and drank too much, only to turn around on Sunday and do a Recovery run with the old Health Director of our area.
On an interesting note: a pretty popular New Reporter in the area (she runs a Marathon every single month, ran the BR Marathon last month) made me take a picture with her and posted it on Facebook, I'm a pretty private person, so I kinda gave her a hard time at the Party that night
her husband agreed with my sentiment

Missed the race and the year end party. Woke up late and did 15 on Sat. Took Sun off entirely.
How was Black Creek? Well run? Nice course? I've never been.

It's nice, you can get 16 miles out there in one go. The cities that manage it really put in the work and made it nice, the volunteers came out (the BUTS aid station was pumpin' as always) and it was well attended (550 registrants).
I run out there all the time, the soft gravel can make it a little harder to get traction, which in turn can make the "PR" chase a little harder than the race director would have you believe, but I love running out there, it's much easier on your joints / muscles.

Haley did a phenomenal job on the party, it was great, hate that you missed it.

Good shite just fighting through that to finish. I wouldve been in the fetal position somewhere

My max is 196. I hit it sprinting the last 1/4 of a race just about every time. Can't hold it for very long.

To me heart rate is such a hard way to judge. it greatly depends on the accuracy of measuring device. i have coros apex pro 2 watch and here's screenshot of my run on New years day. I'd say based on my personal feel 85% of this run was conversation level but heart rate measured compared to typical zones would tell a different story.
Consumed 2 gels and maybe 8oz of water during run.

Yea this is actually why I dont base training on strictly HR. In a perfect world I would love to but devices on the market now arent reliable enough unless you want to drop more money than most are willing. The guy I coached under at the university I worked at a couple years ago swore by HR exclusively. Found out how wonkey garmin's HR feature was then. And a lot of our athletes had chest straps.
When Im describing HR to people asking me training question I usually use conversation pace like you mentioned to explain zone 2. Unless youre in a lab environment HR devices are going to be pretty unreliable but a good general tool to use to track effort.
My workout thursday and recovery run friday (7:15 pace for 6) were actually close in HR according, to my garmin.

Agreed. Here's my run yesterday. I could've been talking on the phone for 90% of it (and have before, actually) but you wouldn't think so from the chart. 169 average, 190-something max.
On a completely unrelated note my IT band is sore again because I drove 10 hours then back loaded my week with longer runs. Lots of stretching and split squats in my future

I've been running pretty consistently again after another year battling insertional achilles tendonitis. Had to do a lot of PT and change my running form and use max cushion shoes. Looked into surgery but that would keep me from running for at least 6 months with no guarantee of success. For the moment, my achilles and I have reached an accord. It allows me run 15-20 miles a week at 9 minute pace, as long as I do not run back to back days or try to run over 8 miles at a time. And I've agreed not to go under the surgeon's knife. Eventually I know I will have to become a walker, but fighting to run for as long as I can as I enter my late 50s.

There's no shame in walking. Would you rather be stuck in a lounge chair?

Ever looked into the Voltaren gel and plastic wrap trick? Probably more aimed at tendinopathy, but could maybe work. I believe Doctor’s of Running had a good podcast episode about Achilles issues and one of the PT’s is doing a PhD dissertation on Achilles issues in senior runners. May be stuff you’ve already heard from PT’s and doctors though.
Here is a link to the episode: LINK

Decker, not Chambers lol, I'm not fast enough to keep up with Chambers.
ETA: as I said in the original post... very private person, not going to out myself on tigerdroppings. I trust you guys in this thread, but not TD as a whole

At least 3 local female personalities are regulars on Sat AM.

Not exactly but I do use Voltaren gel. Seems to be helping.

Doing a hilly 13 miles in the rain on Saturday and doing the old Mercedes Half in the rain on Sunday. Because of this I actually got a 2 day rest this week during the middle of training
it's so rare I'm excited about it! Will get 41.2 miles for the week, 42 miles next week, then 45 miles in 2 weeks.
Then I get a "pull back" week, and have to do a "time trial" half to check in on my fitness... then, my first 50 mile week ever
