My first 100 mile finish was at Pinhoti. Hard to beat for an east coast 100. Point to point and awesome aid stations. Weather can be a crap shoot though.

There are a couple of 50ks and 50 milers the same RD puts on portions of the course throughout the year…really good prep for the race.

If I don't get WS entry, I plan to sign up for the whole Pinhoti series. I already run Mt Cheaha 50k every year anyway.

I've got this shooting, tight pain right at the bottom of my glute, into my hamstring. I'm about to lose my mind trying to rehab it

Have you gotten it checked out? Seems like a strain of some sort.

I also suck at injury shite I always feel bad when my athletes come to me with injury questions because I fricking hate biology and it shows.

Hell nah I just keep running on it. Either it'll go away or I'll tear something and they can drag me off the course and shoot me like an injured racehorse

I’m 29. I competed through college so I have a strong base. Currently only at 30-40 but coming down from 50-60 and about to ramp up to 70-80+ here in a few weeks to get ready for the okc marathon.

What’s wild about the time is that only got me 20th in the race. The local thanksgiving race here in Wichita has gotten ignorant. Top 3 we’re all sub 15. Top 10 all sub 16.

Ran my first race in about 8 years yesterday. Thinking I may put Greek Fest on the schedule as my next race but I saw they run it in the morning now. That sucks he ause I always liked heading straight into the fest after the run.

Sounds like the Huntsville race yesterday. I did a 20:35 and barely scratched the top 2% (39th of 2178)

I'm pretty sure the top 10 where all sub 16 and the top 3 where around that 15 mark. It was an out and back and I'm pretty sure most of them where passing me going back at around the 1 mile mark - just crazy.

Happy though, was my first official 5k and I got 2nd in my age group

Down freakin' 4% grade hills. I was an idiot early on in my training and thought that was legit.

Just like most people early on I was trying to post "awesome numbers" instead of actually training correctly.

Currently 2 weeks away from hopefully my 2nd Marathon. Been training for a sub-3:45, most metrics say I "should" be able to get closer to 3:30, but I don't really trust metrics, I'm still a very "young" runner (only about 6 months into actually training correctly) and don't want to end up injured.

This is a segment of the 3.1 I ran the 18min 5k in:

quote:

Peavine Falls Rd Descent
Segment Pelham, Alabama
Distance
2.10mi
Elevation Gain
69ft
Avg Grade
-3.9%
Lowest Elev
56ft

It keeps going down after that even steeper, Strava gave me a "Grats on your PR" and of course I did a victory dance, probably 2 months after my last Marathon I joined a real running group and quickly learned the "rules".

I actually deleted that run so it wouldn't show up on my PRs anymore. Yesterday's Turkey Trot is my real PR... for now

ETA: I see where your got that information from now, I thought maybe you knew me or something, yeah that post is wrong on a few levels. My 22 minute 5k before training was also down a huge hill. I think my real PR before this year was like 25:03 (and really didn't get much better realistically until late July / Early August)

Did 30 miles on the Pinhoti Trail (Alabama) this weekend while pacing a friend for his 1st 100 miler. I got in 5k elevation gain in those 30 miles. This is a beautiful and tough course. I plan to try the full 100 there next year if I don't get in the Western States lotto.

You didn't happen to be the guy that screamed, "I didn't sign up for 31 miles, I was promised 29, this is bullsh**" as my guy and myself ran past you at the very very end are you? that last 30 was brutal, I don't know how my friend was able to pull it off after already doing 70 before it...

I’m 49. Actually looking forward to turning 50. My 10K time from the turkey trot was good for 8th in my age group, but would have been good for 2nd in the 50 bracket. Always seem to be some sub 7min mile freaks in my age group.

that's just sad. you'll be more satisfied with turning older so you can place higher in some local 10k age group that means nothing rather than training harder and just getting faster. 7 sub min pace for a 10k in age group 45-49 is by no means freakish. mens 80-84 10k world record is 42:58 now that qualifies as freakish.

Hi everyone, ran a 5 mile turkey trot very overweight and with inconsistent training. Finished in 54 min which met my goal of being below an hour. That being said, it was good enough to put me second to last in my age group and only 40 people were slower for the whole race. Next year I want to finish at least in the top half and have set a goal of 8 min/mile. Planning on following Hal higdon 5k then 10k plans over the next four months just to get miles up and then would appreciate any advice from here on what training to do to get faster for a 5 mile race. Thanks!
