This is a goal of mine for 2019. Spent the better half of January through April training with my 11 yr old. Didn't get serious about my own training again until after that. I can't get in as many running days as you can. At least not without causing an argument in my house.

Easy 4 this morning. Heart rate was high though no matter how slow I went.

Doing a quick 3 in the morning and then 17 on Saturday.

Goals:
Sub 3:30 first marathon next month
Sub 1:30 half in spring maybe?
Sub 3:00 full next fall perhaps if things go well

Quarter mile repeats in the 94 degree heat today .

Hope to break 4 hrs for my first marathon in January and sniff 2 hrs for the run of a 70.3 in the spring. Both goals likely push my limits with the time I have to train and current fitness, but are totally achievable.

Thank god this is a recovery week. 8 @ 8 easy and my heart rate was the same as when I was racing the 15k. I’m tired of the heat; I’m tired of complaining about the heat.

I’ve adjusted my goals a little since it’s been 10 months since I started running again.

Next spring I want to be sub 1:25 for the half, mid 17s for the 5k, and 37:30 for the 10. I feel very fortunate to have got as quick as I am this early now I want to push myself even harder.

Ran 3 this morning. Supposed to be a recovery run before my 17 miler tomorrow.

But my dumbass pushed a 9:30 pace (fast for me).

Better eat right and sleep well today.

Ran 5 miles at an recovery pace of 9:10 last night. I used to run almost exclusively at night before switching to morning after the birth of our second child. I would probably consider hanging up the shoes if I had to switch back to running nights full time. It's just as hot and humid at 9:00 PM as it is at 12:00 PM.

That is really fricking fast.

These are some nice times.

I was never able to break 1:30 in the half. Couldn't shave off those last few minutes.

Thanks guys. I did a half mar progressive @ 1:34 so I know I’m sub 1:30. We’ll see how much of the “gift” I have left after I squandered it 20 years ago with beer and cigarettes.

They might not be realistic at this point but I’d rather shoot the moon and walk backwards on these goals.

@ hog

Recovery week from the race so I’m probably not feeling it like you might with the marathon training but I’m beyond annoyed. None of us should be surprised, this happens every year.

Any of you with kids run with strollers? What age do you stop? My son just turned 4 and he's starting to get heavy . But it's so nice to be able to take him. Both for my convenience of not having to make sure someone can watch him, and also because he just enjoys it.

Tried it but running with a stroller causes severe back pain for me. My wife does it and says she had no problems but for some reason, I can’t run with a stroller without being completely debilitated for a good two days.

I do know someone though that ran a 21 minute 5K pushing a pair of twins. Probably just as impressive as Kipchoge’s world record IMO.

I never do more than 3 miles with my two year old son in the stroller anymore. Did five in July with him and almost passed out. Did 16 on my own this morning but the stroller workout is something else lol.

Strapped on the headlamp and headed out early this am. Got my 12 in. Negative split the first 8 and last 4 which was my plan. Wanted to practice pushing toward the end to get a feel on what I may have left in the tank on race day.

Good friends of ours in town from Jacksonville, so went out to eat last night and had 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine. In turn, slept like shite and experienced some cramping in my quad around mile 11-12. First time ever, so I am gonna (hopefully) chalk it up to drinking and late night last night as I woke up feeling pretty dehydrated. Planning to cut out all alcohol after this weekend (race on 10/21). Had a 20 oz handheld filled with water that was gone about mile 6. Had a Honey Stinger gel at mile 5, 10.

Also was surprised when I peeled my socks off to have some fresh war wounds. Wore some thinner socks than normal, lesson learned.

Get you some Features baw.

Seven easy this morning and for the first time this week my heart rate was back down in the 130s/140s. 15 tomorrow to round out recovery week. Should finish with 50 total.

Forecast extended the hot weather into mid week next week so we have that to look forward to.

I don't envy you. That dew point (mid 70s here) is getting to some bad levels right now.
