“Oooh, I really like what you did on mile 4” “Man, I just know that if I run with you, I’ll get/be able to...” “Can you... (insert favor)”

So partially creepy, but a lot of needy people that I didn’t have a relationship with. Was starting to get a bunch of locals friending me on Facebook and trying to get me to help them or train them, or ask me a bunch of stupid shite. More persistent than the MLM turds on Facebook.

Then there’s the most condescending comment that wore me out... “ I wish I could look/run/ be skinny like you” Bitch, you can; just takes an extra 10-13 hours a week.

So now all my runs are private.

Got up for the 7AM half marathon. It was raining sideways here in Bham. That didn't bother me much, but my phone wouldn't charge. It was dead. Decided between the thunderstorms and dead phone to sleep in. About to go take a slow 13 miles around the community. It'll be all hills and a slow recovery run. Might work a fast mile or two in there.

frick. Dramatically underestimated the humidity and the heat. Wow. Drug arse for 9 miles and called it quits. Had to stop and get some water at mile 7. I will be running strictly in the mornings for a while I guess except for my Thursday night beer run.

Had a decent run this morning then walked 18 holes of golf in the afternoon. I'm feeling confident of getting back to a sub-1:43 half marathon and with some focused training I believe a sub-20 5k is in reach.

Hell yeah, McBaw.

Nice 25 mile bike yesterday and a 5 mile run today. Looking forward to more swimming practice next week.

Ideal. I don’t see a nicer morning than this happening until fall.

15.25 in about 140 this morning felt good and relaxed. For that baw that wants to go sub three here is an example of some of those workouts I do for race prep. (That I referenced in a previous post)

3x5k 4 minutes jogging rest

Ladder Ks 1 3 2 3 1 three minutes jogging rest in between.

What’s your half look like, baw? You’ll need to be at least 1:25 to have a fighting chance.

What if I told you those specific workouts weren’t even a full 3 years since I’d started running? I smoked for 15 years before I started back up training. When I joined this thread I was only 4-5 months back and struggling to break a 21 minute 5K. There are no shortcuts, heart rate, or positive thinking exercise that can substitute for working your arse off.

I started by running 6 miles a week and barely being able to chug along a 9-10 minute mile. If I had raced anyone in this thread, I would have got my arse absolutely handed to me. Different goals...

I’ll be 40 in a couple of months. Damndest thing ain’t it?

I'm finishing up my 3rd week of Higdon's novice program. It'll humble the shite out of you to go from a running sub-17 3 milers to having a HR of 175 on a 9:00 min/mile run

It feels good to get back into it though. Hopefully I'll be in good enough shape to be competitive in some fall 5Ks

Miss seeing BRM's Strava splits.

Put in 9.5 yesterday while traveling to LA for the weekend. I forget how small my hometown is and how quickly I get bored of running up and down back streets. Good pacing throughout and HR was pretty steady below 150 until the last 15 minutes where I picked up the pace.

How many miles/week are most marathon training plans towards the end? I'm trying to get an idea of how much more running I will be doing timewise. I'm around 30/week now.

I'd love to be able to have a 6/min pace at a HR of 140ish. How is that even possible?

I'm two years in on my running career at 47. Guess I need to be training harder?

Really depends on the goal. For my first I maxed out around 40. My second time around was 45. My plan going forward will be in the mid 50's. Most of the beginner plans max out in the low 40's.
