Yeah it's a 4ish mile loop somewhere around Sacramento. Paved trail type course. It's certified. I just can't fathom why Hoka didn't take the heat into consideration when planning this ordeal. Walmsley looking shot trying to get back out there to finish the 100K, for the 50 mile WR to count. 50 mile in 04:50:00/6:04 pace.

Wonder how Hoka's Marketing department is feeling. Jim on the verge of dropping out, another dude dropped out way early. 100K mark will stand. Guess they can market the shoe around Jim's 50 mile WR, assuming he can at least walk in the rest of the 100K.

Am I mistaking that they just basically threw a carbon fiber plate in a Cavu? Some of these shoe companies can be be really effing obtuse. It's not the plate that makes the Vaporfly a great shoe, it's the foam; a foam which anyone can buy. Nike doesn't own it. Dumb.

I haven't a clue honestly. I haven't even looked at the shoe. #marketingfail

12 mile Central Park run. Final long run pre not overly well conditioned Brooklyn half coming up in two weeks. 8:04 pace. Not setting any PRs here due to the injury a few months back.

I am aiming for automatic 2020 NY Marathon qualifying by getting enough NYRR races in this year. I know a few of y’all will be here for that.

He got the 50 mile record. Got to give credit where it’s due.

Oh hell yeah. The more I think about it, the more insane it is. 50 miles @ 6:00 pace. Crazy shite.

Anybody wanna share their take on fueling during a longer run/race, especially in the Summer heat? Certain amount of calories, electrolytes, etc. per time, miles, etc? Salt tabs?

I'm going to start digging into Google today, but my approach right now is just to take in some water and maybe some tail wind/gel for anything longer than 45 minutes, or a speed workout. Nothing really specific. Would like to dial it in a bit more this Summer and not wait until I need fuel to take it in, or take in more than I need.

Ordered some Nunn tabs + caffeine yesterday so gonna experiment with those also.

On this note, got the Exo Draw in yesterday. Really like the fit in my hand, but not too fond of the way the cap opens. Seems like I’ll have to use my teeth to open it, which could be dangerous on a run. Maybe I’ll just leave it open. Planning a mid day long run tomorrow around the Lakes, so may test it out then.

I’m about to start looking more into this as well. Last summer my mileage dropped off in the summer last year significantly and I don’t want that this time.

Gels don’t go well in the summer so Nuun and chews will probably be key.

I’m going to be buying some bottles to experiment with. My Nike one is fine but I think there are better options.

I don’t fuel or hydrate during training runs ever but I found that if you don’t mind the extra weight, SiS 2oz gels are perfect for knocking out 2 birds with one stone. It’s a watered down gel and they have some with electrolytes. I plan on having someone pass them to me on the marathon course in November.

I don't more times than I do for sure, but I need to make an effort to do so this Summer. Not too fond of carrying anything extra on me/in my hand, but I think it's my best bet to do so, being that due to my schedule a lot of my training is mid day.

And I guess my question is more based on timing of when to take in fuel/hydration. I know everybody is different but what is your plan on race days, being that you don't do anything on training days? Do you go by mileage, time, etc?

I think will get you where you need if your water bottle doesn't work out.

Right on.

And how bad does it suck trying to drink out of a disposable cup during a race? I broke down and slowed for a cup during mile 5 in the CCC and cost me a few seconds at least, verified by looking at my splits. Coulda been under 41 most likely. Ended up just dumping the damn thing on my head.

I can't imagine. I don't even attempt it. I didn't take any water during that last half I did. If conditions are where I'll have to hydrate during a race, I won't race it.

50 mile record is pretty cool BTW. I don't really have a reference because I don't really follow the ultra stuff. I think I might start though. With the way the IAAF is treating Caster Semenya, and the removal of the distance races, I need to find a way to get my running entertainment fix.

IAAF can take a hard high one and I won't watch their bullshite until they fix themselves.

Don’t think I’ll be running the 5K, just haven’t been feeling 100% for a while now

Looking at your training you post every week, I'd imagine some lack of diversity in it has your training strain through the roof. That with the weather getting warm has to be tough. Too bad about the 5K. Maybe next time.

All of the above and really. Working 50-60 hour weeks, hip has been bothering me, haven’t been in it mentally

Race is 5/26. Hopefully I can still get my goal. Probably take a couple weeks off after

Have a question -->

I have a 5K on Saturday to break up the monotony of running in my neighborhood.

Since I will run it hard , does this qualify for my weekly speed workout ? Can I replace Tuesday's 400s with miles or should I run hard both days?
