That doesn’t sound fun!

Got in my 4 miles. 7:56 pace at 146 average HR

Really wanted to go further, but I’ll have to wait til tomorrow

I'm still on the take-it-slow-and-low posterior tibialis tendinopathy/tendinitis/dysfunction aka "your ankle is fricked up because you ran a marathon without proper training, on flat feet and shitty old shoes" program, but I'll join the challenge asap.

They finally finished and opened the little extension of the PATH system that basically connects my house to my favorite nowhere near cars running area. Half marathon loop almost completely on dedicated paved/boardwalk path and that's without even touching the single track. The weather has been really shitty in Atlanta but perfect temps for running.

My 5k race this morning was just OK. My official race time was 22:27. Wanted to break 7 min a mile but was just not feeling it. 7:15 first mile, 7:15 second and 7:12 third. For some reason Strava has me at 21:46. No way. GPS on my watch is way off. I did get 1st in my age group though. Something to build on. Got another 5k in 2 weeks.

I still think it’s good, go break 22 in 2 weeks!

I’m going to try and get into this thread next year. I’ve been lurking most of this year and you are all killing it. Hoping to get in a full in 2019.

Did 8.5 in 1 hour, 2 minutes. About a 7:20 pace. PR. About 6 months ago I decided to stop half assing my runs because I felt like I always had so much left in the tank after even long runs and it’s made me improve a ton.

Got in 16 at lunch, with all of my splits between 8:50 and 9:00. I was pretty pleased as I was shooting for consistency. Try to jump to 18 next weekend. Been running by myself on almost all of my long runs this year as that's how I prefer to do them, but it's starting to get tougher staying focused and motivated now that the mileage is creeping up.

Vista - Saw that run on Strava, excellent job on the 1st place. Nice looking medal also. I had that race on my radar (the 1/2), but work got in the way.

Quail - Good to see you here; looks like you are already pretty damn quick.

Just got a pair of Jabra Elite 65t wireless ear buds from my clinic I work at. So excited to take them out on a run tomorrow. Are y'all running with music? If so, which ear buds are y'all using?

I’ve got some Jaybird Tarah that I use

Liked my Beats more. Don’t think I will use any next race though

I usually do. I was using Apple Airpods, but I got a new small device that only plays Spotify (in an effort to avoid carrying my phone) and it won't stay connected, so I had to go back to corded Apple earbuds. I will upgrade to a Garmin watch that plays Spotify eventually and hopefully will get back to the Airpods then. Although, I'd like to not rely on music at all. Especially during races (as hb mentioned).

Tried some wireless buds but would never connect consistently. I just strap my phone to my arm and blare music out loud during training runs. I find it helps me avoid cars and cyclists better. Never listen to music in a race.

Have some Sony ear buds with an ear loop. Found that other ear buds would start slipping out of my ears after a couple of miles when it’s really hot outside.

I run on highway a good bit, so I avoid using headphones all together. I feel safer being able to hear the hum of the cars barreling toward me.

16 long run today, just over 60 for the week. Time to taper then reset.

As far as earbuds go, I wear these

40 bucks and I'd put them against any earbud that cost twice as much.

I only wear them in the gym because

I only use the trails and sidewalks because people hit runners and bikers around here like it's their damn job. Even the sidewalk around some streets are sketchy.

If you run on highways around here, you have a death wish. If you do it wearing earbuds, you'll eventually kiss your arse goodbye.

Moving forward with a plan to run the La. Half on 1/20 in BR. I've been to the event before but never ran the Half there, only the 5K IIRC. I'd like to get the lay of the land/course if I am going to run the Full in 2020. I may end up doing the 5K as a shakeout/get a taste of the Expo on Saturday if my wife is game.

That said, I am hopping on a (free) Hanson's advanced Half plan, albeit with reduced mileage. For instance weeks 13 & 14 (which is where I'm hopping in at) of the plan call for 47/50 miles, I will be at 33/30, after today. Just gonna follow the workouts and adjust the mileage on my own. With that, going to make a concerted effort to run my easy runs actually at easy pace according to their calculator (and Daniel's VDOT, pretty much the same), which I haven't really been doing. Been a little quicker than they should be.

My goal is to be sub 1:45, with the hope of sniffing 1:40. Current PR is 1:49:30 on 11/17.

With my VDOT of 44.3 based on my recent 10K time, Daniel's calculator puts me at 1:41, as does Hanson's.

In typical Burt fashion:

Recovery week for BRM; that trail shite beat me down.

5 days later

just over 60 for the week

These are cool because there is an option to open the microphones to let the ambient sound in while you run.

@ TR

JK It was a good week and I was able to recover pretty well by keeping it slow and staying away from workouts.

Those headphones seem pretty cool. I'm not a huge music while running guy because it really distracts me from concentration on breathing, cadence, form and I treat runs as meditation.

It's the lack of stimulation I really appreciate, especially early in the morning when there's no sound but my breathing and footsteps.

Knocked out a 10k today at a 10:55 pace which is my fastest ever. And I consider it really good since I had 2 work Christmas parties Friday and Saturday nights. Plenty of food and booze was consumed. Lol.
