What is the process for Chicago? Just submit an application? Provide any race results?

You can get guaranteed entry with a good time. Don’t remember the number.

Non-guaranteed entry was due Nov 29 and you just submit an application. If you get picked, the $205 deducts from your account. I don’t remember the percentage chance...20% of applicants maybe?

Mine too!

I didn’t tell my wife I applied though. She’s going to be pissed.

Nice! I hadn't told my wife either . I figured I probably wouldn't get picked from the lottery, so it wouldn't matter. Called her this morning to let her know after I got the email. She seemed cool with it - we're gonna schedule a trip around the race.

Guys, I ran my first sub 30 min 5k ever (29:37). The sole reason I even considered waking up this morning and trying to break 30 min is because I found this thread, and I sit and read about you dudes crushing it, and dammut I want to crush it too. Thank you guys for the motivation.

i just looked back at my strava and i had 1 run over 6 miles in the summer and even then i bitched about it on there.

Granted I was testing the waters with a Keto diet at the time, but there were runs this summer of 2.5 miles at a 10:30 pace that had my hands tingling. I get that feeling when I lay it on the line for a 5k or something. This was easy runs, but that humidity and heat was no joke. It was impossible to keep my heart rate low enough to run without carbs. That's why I think the first response in this thread is me saying I'd join up in September, but screw anything earlier than that .

hb - heard dat Brah. I think most of us stuck to the plans & came here to complain daily during the Summer! Early/late is doesn’t matter, really no way to beat the damn heat/dew point in South La. Anyway, done complaining about that for another few months at least... I hope!

Scooby - Awesome job dude! This thread has given me plenty of bumps in races/training. Good stuff!

Any of you guys have a go-to sock recommendation. I've tried more brands than I can count over the years, and punched holes in the toe area of just about every single one of them. You would think I had razor blades for nails. I turned into a bitch and even tried filing my nails after I clip them so that I don't end up with any sharp points.

I love features and they’ve got a lifetime warranty. 16 buck a pop though.

Worth it if they last me longer than a couple months. Purchased a three pack of Saucony socks two months ago. I'm left with two left socks that are still in half decent shape.

You run in the max cushion, or light cushion?

I roll Balega and Dry Max for the most part. The Dry Max are generally pretty thin but I can’t see bustin’ through the Balegas, although I reckon it’s possible.

Y’all boys hammering miles in tights when it’s cold or nah?

I only run in Injinjis. Really helped with blisters.

And no. No tights for me. My legs just suffer.

I run in Balegas, want to try feetures at some point though

I run in tights, but only if it’s below like 35 and a shorter run

Long run probably below 30
