Trail running is very different and more difficult than road running.
Essentially, take a minute off your road pace and that’s around trail pace. If you’ve never ran the trail before, add another 30sec-1 minute.
You use your whole body and mind on the trail. Or at least I have to.

8 miles yesterday at a 9:45 pace. Probably stupid to do less than a week before my first full but I felt good. Will do an easy 3 tomorrow morning and then rest until Friday for a 2-3 mile shakeout.
26.2 on Saturday. Forecast is upper 30s, rain, and wind.

If any of you guys are early morning/late evening runners, and are looking for a solid headlamp, I'm linking the one I recently started using. It's a pretty solid buy. A little more expensive than your standard $20-$30 headlamp, but well worth it. Stays well in place and has a flashing red lamp in the back to give you more visibility.

yeah. it's a whole different beast.
if i'm BOOKING it i can run sub 9s on trails, but usually it's around 9:15-9:45. i have plenty of great trail runs where i went pretty hard and still ran over 10 minute pace and am proud of it. there's jumping, climbing, cutting, slipping, and all sorts of stuff that's just more difficult.

First real test of the Sense Rides. So far they are blister machines but otherwise a great trail shoe.
Got a pair when they were brought up on here, while they were on sale. Only put them on once to try on, haven’t done anything in them yet. Soon.

I saw some speescrosses on sale a while back and was tempted. I’d like to find a fast trail shoe but didn’t want to commit to those.
Kinda thinking about the Hoka Speedgoat.
Just saw we’re at 20+ strava members. Nice.

Don’t freak out but one of them is a lady.
Act cool guys.
Went for a 4 miler this afternoon at a park waiting for a kid to finish up something.
There is this hill there that just kicks my arse. 100 feet elevation in about .2 miles. I do hills all the time but that one is a doozy. I thought today I surely could own it. Nope.

My wife noticed before I did. Threw all my shite out the window and took the kids away. Said she knew I was up to no good.

How many laps around that track did you run yesterday. Looked nauseating.

So, I think I have some info on the Walmsley conversation from a few pages back. I follow him on Strava. He posted that he's going for an Olympic Trials Qualifier at the Houston Half. I didn't know this, but I looked it up. Apparently, you can qualify for the Olympic Marathon Trials with a half-marathon time under 1:05:00. He said his goal is to go under 64 minutes. Hope he makes it, would be a huge achievement for a guy trained to run as long as he does.

Over 30
I won't lie, it wasn't that much fun. I needed to get that speed work in after dark and that was the best place to do it. Either there or the treadmill

I don’t think he’s ever ran an actual Marathon race, has he? No doubt he could do it obviously, but I’ve always found that odd. I’d definitely like to see him representing in 2020.

Question regarding speed work intensity - specifically 800’s. Should I be going all out on these? 80%, 90%? Really don’t want to have to be married to my watch and a specific pace while doing an interval, so I usually just pretty much go all out.
I reckon my thinking is the faster I can get my legs to turn over the better?
