Entered a BJJ tournament on Saturday. Need to drop the last few pounds to make weight, but don't want to be drained or dehydrated for the competition. Weigh-ins are right before your match. What's the best method with just a few days to go? Been drinking lots of water and eating like rabbit.

Very low carbs should make you drop water weight. It might be enough.

I don't really have an answer but the time of your match may affect your weight. I realized recently that my weight fluctuates about 4 lbs from 10pm at night to 7am in the morning (at about 175 lbs).

If your match is earlier in the morning and you are used to weighing later in the day, it might be the needed 3-4 lbs.

no carbs. Or less than 20g. Gotta be strict though

I think dehydration may be a better choice at this point, when compared to low carbs/keto, especially if you’ve never done low carb before (in regards to energy level). Are we talking about going from 223 to 220 or 148 to 145?

Even losing that little of weight can have an impact on your performance with the time frame of the weigh in

I'm not saying you'll need an iv or anything like that but you'll be sluggish

Find a sauna gets some wet suit type clothes and Saran wrap

See if any of your teammates were wrestlers or have cut weight previously, embrace the suck together

Exactly

It's gonna suck if he's already a light guy, will be more forgiving if he was 200 plus

but they typically have 24 hours to rehydrate after weigh ins

hell of a lot different than cutting weight, weigh in then two hours later you have to perform. it sucks.

I'm 205-206, need to be 202 at weight-in. Unfortunately, you weigh in right before you step onto the mat, so no time for rehydration. I've been drinking over a gallon of water a day and plan to start cutting back as the week goes on. Also been going no carb and no salts, but I'm dragging during training this week. If I can get down to 200 by Saturday morning, was planning to "carb up" for breakfast with maybe toast with peanut butter and a bunch of fruit, take a swig of pickle juice before I go to the tournament. Probably going to fight around noon.

It's all about timing, I'd drink a little more tommorrow and maybe cut out a lot of water on Friday

At your bodyweight, I don't think you'll feel too bad if it's done right.

Btw if your tournament is this week, then this training week shouldn't have been a hard week

Yeah, I'm cutting back the next few days, just some jogging and drills. Not going too hard on the mat until Saturday
