I've always wanted to incorporate rowing into my routine for some good cardio, but my gym for the last 6 years didn't have any rowers. Well they finally dropped some cash and bought 5 of the Matrix Power Rowers. These bad boys are pretty sweet. Been rowing between 6000 and 6400 meters in a 30 minute workout. did this about 5 times now. Breaking a nice sweat, and not having impact on my knees and ankles is nice. Any of you fitness gurus row on a regular basis for cardio? Supposedly it burns more calories per hour than running and about every other cardio machine at the gym. This is quickly becoming my go to cardio workout.

Nice. Have you been rowing are will you just be getting into it? I'm curious of the results compared to other forms of cardio.

Never done it before but my wife used one in crossfit and liked it a lot. We got it to put next to our treadmill as an alternate

I'm not a fitness guru, but I've been rowing consistently for a year now. I enjoy it and have been doing about 4 days a week on average.

Watch some youtube videos and get your form correct before you really start pushing harder or further. Back issues for example are a common cause of poor technique. It's not just "pulling" on the handle. Rowers will tell you it is a pushing sport. Anyways, with proper technique it is relatively low impact and a good workout.

Why is that? If you are practicing correct form, it doesn't seem to put much pressure on your shoulders. Or at least in my case it doesn't. Its mostly back, bis, and legs.

I used a rowing machine a lot in college. I don't know how to really compare it to other forms of cardio, but my back was ripped.

Just set it up and took it for a test spin, I like it but it's gonna take some getting used to . I definitely need to watch some videos on proper form.

Sarge, Hope you like it. You might want to think about a mat or at least throw some towels down. That thing is a sweat making machine.....

WTF you talking about? its not hard on your shoulders at all and in fact if used correctly tends to work the rear delts and corrects many shoulder problems. Its the exact opposite of being hard on your shoulders.

Now if you are rolling you shoulders then yea it could be, but other than that it should/does strengthen the muscles around the joint that are usually neglected due to too much pressing when lifitng.

Love rowing. By far my favorite "cardio".

It can absolutely destroy you.

I'm not much on long duration workouts on it though. 2000 m is about as long as I'll go at once. Go all out on that and enjoy collapsing off the rower.

C2s are great. Setup takes 10 minutes or less and super sturdy. Best piece of fitness equipment I've purchased by far. Rowing is a killer workout especially if you do sprint splits for time. Will drain you quick.

Just finished 30mins. Averages:

3 out of 10 resistance
108w
6100 meters
34spm
333 calories burned.

Im wiped out. Was a little slower than my last one bc i worked back and bis yesterday and im a little sore.

Eta: what resistance yall usually row on? I have been doing 3 out of 10 bc thats what it was set on my first day, but it seems like a good setting considering the workout im getting.

Damn, a little resistance must go a long way, in regards to distance.

I don't believe the resistance has anything to do with distance. Think of the resistance has the weight of a boat. The more resistance = the heavier boat. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to try to get more out of it and I still think my spm is higher than optimal from what I have read. But I have improved my Stroke enough to maximize the distance traveled per.
